Jeff,

These only show up when I have the VA plugin in the plugins folder. If I remove the VA Plugin, then the DW20.exe's go away. The widget plugins don't cause it either. On the MVP, the plugin also doesn't load any video names, all I get is the dancing hour glass. I've reinstalled it a few times with the same result (also it did the same thing after completely removing and reinstalling 97.7).

I used the latest VA plugin from the wiki.

Areethere any error messages logged in your gbpvr.exe.log file or in the archiver*.log files? I don't understand why dw20 (which I think stands for the old Doctor Watson error dump) would be running. I use an MVP at home almost exclusivley, although I do test on the PC as well and I have never seen this. That said, I only have OpenOffice installed on my home machine not Microsoft office. However I've tested things on my development machine where I do have MS Office and I've never seen this either. Is there some set of steps that cause these tasks to start or are they always running as soon as GPVR loads?

I think thats the doctor watson executable, so its probably being started as a result of a crash.

I can confirm that this also is happening on my machine. It is more stable now then it was a few days ago, but I have had it happen from both the MVP and PC interface. It is indeed some kind of crash. It usually requres a reboot, but it sometimes recovers. It will spawn 3 or 4 of the DW20.exe programs at a time, sending the cpu to 100% continuously. I have not seen anything in my gbpvr logs though. It did it last night while I was recording one show and looking through VA to find a show to watch. I hope this helps. Let me know if there are any tests you want me to run. (I will be gone most of the weekend though). Thanks for the great work.

I found this in the archivedb.mvp file it looks like it does this everytime I start the mvp. I don't know if it means anything.

05/18/06 09:15:55:922 PM[22] Error when opening archive database. The database access string was 'Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\video archive.mdb'. The only error in the gbpvr.exe log file was:
5/19/2006 12:20:48 PM.900 ERROR [1] Unable to find node: /settings/SpecialElements/SpecialElement[@name="MenuType"]

I have been getting this error for months without issue. I don't know what it is but I don't seem to have a problem with it.

I have Office 97 installed as well as open office. I think it might be related to Microsoft Windows Defender (Beta 2) which has made references to Doctor Watson. There must be an issue between the plugin and Defender. I didn't have this problem under the 96.12 (even with Defender installed) so maybe it also has to do with .net 2.0.

Soccerdad, do you have Defender installed also?

Thanks,

The problem is with Window Defender. When I disable it, I don't have the problem. When it is enabled, then I end up with the 3 or 4 DW20.exe files.

I guess I can't leave real time protection on.

Ok, now I feel real stupid. I don't even know what Windows Defender is. I am running AGV antivirus and zonealarm. The PVR box is running XP home and SP2. It is running office 2000 Small Business (I think). Could any of these be a problem? It seems like pretty standard stuff... Besides, it looks like Dr.Watson is a debugger program that would tell me what a problem is, not cause one. Even if I keep the DW20 files from spawning, wouldn't I still have a problem? Or is this a case where the medicine is worse than the illness?

Windows Defender is that Anti Spam thingy Microsoft has been working on and, if memory serves me correctly, recently abandoned.

Not abandoned -- I believe it is going to ship with Vista.
