Going by the logs, I'd say you've got a firewall getting in the way of communications to the zap2it server

Quote:5/28/2006 6:51:41 PM.734 ERROR [6] Error UpdateEPG()'ing: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

Sub,

Were you able to determine any problem from the previous log file? Forgive me if I seem a little impatient. I'm sure you are very busy.

Thanks, Paul

Didn't you understood, what sub was talking? Mhm... viewing to you logs it seems to be, that a firewall on your PC is refusing the access to the zap2it server...

Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

You see? Are you sure, you have nor active firewall which could block the transfer? Than you should temporarily REMOVE the Norton AntiVir (Btw., it's a piece of junk -> Norton is well known to have problems with many programs).

Sorry for the confusion. I didn't realize that Sub had answered my last question which was on a second page of the thread.

I have always had to disable the Norton Interrnet Security in order to update the EPG. However, recently, the problem occurred even when NIS is disabled. I also checked to see that the XP firewall (called ICF) is disabled.

Is it recommended that I delete NIS? Or reset the system to a time before the problem occurred?

ShiningDragan recommended that another firewall be used other than Norton products. What other product do you recommend?

Regards,

Listening to actual Virus-Tests, the Freewarescanner "Avira" ax AntiVir, should be good enough. I am using it too, without any conflicts with other programs.
You can get it here: http://www.free-av.de, or you can try G-DATA AntiVir; it's the one with the best recognisition.

Hi,

I have the exact same issue with my install as the OP has(had). Here is the output from the Config.exe.log with the error I am getting:

I have disabled all firewall software, and I get the same error if I use the XMLTV EPG update.

I still have the problem which started this thread.

Actions taken:
1) Deleted and recreated a line with Zap2it.
2) Left and reentered Zap2it to see that new line was not dropped.
3) Restored XP system to a date previous to start of trouble.
4) Reinstlled .net Frame V2
5) Uninstalled/reinstalled GBPVR V 0.97.7
6) Disabled all aspects of Norton Internet Security
7) Checked that Microsoft Firewall was disabled.
8) Deleted and recreated Capture Source in GBPVR

Things I may try:
1) Uninstall 0.97.7 and install earlier version
2) I don't know how, but going back to .net Frame V1 might be worth a try.
3) Uninstall Norton Internet Security

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'd sure like to get GBPVR back!

Thanks,
Paul

Have you logged into http://labs.zap2it.com to make sure you've still got a channel lineup listed? They have been known to delete them occasionally.

Yup, and the lineup is still there. I then tried importing it again, and received the same (sort of) message.
