I'm sure you know this - but just in case, make sure you put the diode in the right way. Best way to tell is with a multimeter. Post if you need help.

There are many threads on replacing and extending them. I have to agree with SoccerDad. I've seen that thing Dead on Arrival so many times... Check it with a video camera first, and then send it to Hauppauge.... Unless you're totaly set on hacking... (It's fun sometimes, ain't it?)

Well, the original LED (plain red one) would blink like crazy, so I assume that it worked...if I can't get it goin, I'll put the red one back on and send it back
![]() And hacking stuff is always more fun, even if it is as simple as a LED swap. Who hasn't changed all the LED's in their computer to obnoxiosly blue ones ![]() ![]()

BTW, you don't have to send your old one back to Hauppauge, they will just send you a new one. They know about the problem and should trust you. Again, just because it blinks does not mean it is working. Also, they are very weak even if they do work so it is location, location, location. (and make sure you peel the sticky back off the tape and put it tape side toward the receiver

Just an update, since i forgot about this thread...
I got a new tv card back from hauppauge since the first one had died on me. I hooked up the IR blaster with the new radio shack IR LED and it controls the STB like a charm. I don't have the Radio shack part number, but it's a package that has both an IR transmitter LED and an IR reciever LED. Cost me about 5 bucks. Thanks for the input ![]()
