Quote:sub, I followed your instructions and it found the device.
This is in my bda.ini:

[Hauppauge HVR-950]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
FILTER_TUNER="WinTV HVR-980 BDA Tuner"
FILTER_CAPTURE="WinTV HVR-980 BDA Captuer"
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

I click the 'map digital channels' and it does a scan, but finds no channels.
Can you do this 'map digital channels' again, then zip and attach the logs so I can take a look? Hit the rescan button if didnt scan automatically.

Quote:I run an EPG update (zap2it plugin), but then I launch gbpvr and it tells me that no channels have been set up.
Yeah, you'll get that if you didnt map any channels after the channel scan (obviously not easy if non are found though...).

I click the 'map digital channels' and it does a scan, but finds no channels. Not sure if there's even an HD source in my city (Calgary, Canada). I run an EPG update (zap2it plugin), but then I launch gbpvr and it tells me that no channels have been set up.

I'm in Calgary. Used to work for Shaw. If you're with Shaw , you'll need a HD cable box. If you have that, you'll probably want to hook up the card/dongle/whatever you call that to at least RCA cables...

Telus doesn't have HD yet (says it's coming but don't hold your breath). SAT might be the only other choice. I'm pretty sure there are no terrestrial broadcasts on HD...

Edit: according to me reading the Hauppauge page: So if you use just regular coax cable with Shaw, you should get analog channels. I do not blieve you will get any HD from straight coax. Shaw has proprietary digital signal on the coax, and needs to be decoded by the cable box. And as I said, I don't think there's off air HD in Calgary...

thanks for the info zehd. Someone had told me that there was one over the air HD broadcast in Calgary area, but now I know they're full of sh*t.

zehd Wrote:Edit: according to me reading the Hauppauge page: So if you use just regular coax cable with Shaw, you should get analog channels.

I get analog channels in Hauppauge's WinTV2000 app, but can't get them to come up in gbpvr. The capture source and EPG config look ok, and the EPG update from zap2it seems to finish, but when I launch gbpvr it tells me I have no channels defined and I need to run the EPG update.

thanks for having patience with a newb..

OK i've given up on getting HD. Does it even make sense to try and get the analog cable signals working with gbpvr?

When I pick the 'BDA recording plugin', all that is available is manual tuning. If I don't enter anything in the 'tuning request' field, the channel gets disabled.

It might work, but there has been no confirmation from owners of this device yet. At the very least you'd need to install the Hauppauge SoftPVR software, since this device lacks a hardware MPEG2 encoder.

The 'BDA recording plugin' is only used for digital. You'd need to set up a 'direct recording plugin' capture source for regular analog cable.

sub, I just tried this. the hvr-950 doesnt appear on the capture card type dropdown, and if I pick 'only show devices detected', it says 'no known cards detected'. I've tried each of the hauppauge ones on the list, but gbpvr is always giving me 'failed to locate configured capture device'.

As I said, the HVR-950 was only ever a 'maybe' for analog, so its possible its not compatible. I had hoped it would work with the HVR4000 or HVR3000 setting, since these also lack a hardware MPEG2 encoder but work as long as Hauppauge SoftPVR is installed.

Its still possible it might work if i connects up the same way as these other HVR devices, but this would require you to add a new section to the direct.ini file. This would involve making a copy of the HVR4000 section and updating the names to match those used by your HVR-950 device.
