No, it appears i don't have the latest driver for the USB-UIRT. I go by the philosphy if it isn't broke, don't fix it. I haven't had to touch the usb-uirt since i installed it a year or so ago and this didn't start happening till installing .98.8. But i think the channel changing setup might be different than what it used to be. When I tried to upgrade to 98.8 from some 96.x version, it completely blew up so i had to uninstall gbpvr and just install 98.8 fresh and reconfigure everything, so i might not have configured the usb-uirt the same as i had had it in the past.

I backed up the old install of 96.x, which file(s) would i look in to see how i had setup the channel changer stuff so i can compare to the current install?

Theres not really much to compare with since v0.96. You could try copying the file you'd previously learnt for you set top box remote, but other than that it should be the same.

My USB-UIRT code hasnt changed in a very long time, but I wouldnt put it past something about moving to .NET 2.0 causing a slight change in behaviour that interferes with the USB-UIRT.

I'd probably try that recycle setting I mentioned to see if it helps.

I also recall using the the "dish network receiver.dat" file with the .98.8 install instead of the one i had created a long time ago when there wasn't one included. I just compared the two and they are indeed different. It was created back in 3/2005. Is it compatible with .98.8?

I've attached the one i 'created'

I'll add the recycle thing to my config.xml and see what happens.

Yeah should, nothing has changed in the USB-UIRT support in a very long time.

Where is this supposed to go in the config.xml? I added it using Window's Notepad and then the recording service crashed and I couldn't get the config.app to start up with it it crashing also until i put my backup copy back into place.

Anywhere is fine.

You would have somehow corrupted the file. When you do this, if you try to open the XML file with Internet Explorer it'll generally tell you what is wrong with the XML file. (mismatch tag, funny character etc...)

Torque,

This confirms that this is not an isolated case since I am having the same problem as posted in this recent thread:

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=20597

In my case, this has to do with usb-uirt since when I change the remote type to manual, this issue goes away and cpu usage returns to normal.

Hopefully you would find a fix for this which would work for me too.

Hmm, looks like we lost all of yesterdays posts!

Well, to sum up yesterday's discussion, i'm not capable of editing the config.xml file myself... i only have to open the file with editpad/notepad/wordpad and save it (without changing anything) and it GBPVR throws a fit. Using Sub's suggestion of reading it with IE, it complains about the registered trademark symbols ® on the SupportedDecoders line after the bitcontrol® cinemaster® etc. I tried just opening and resaving it on my main computer, my wife's computer and the PVR and they all screw it up... maybe a recent security patch is to blame?

Sub offered to edit in the recycle usbuirt line, so i'm attaching it again.

BTW, I've updated my usb-uirt driver to the latest and change to the dishnetwork dat file i had been using previously and the recording service .exe still pegs the cpu randomly. I really hope this recycle thing helps.

Thanks.

There were about five hours of posts lost as we moved the forums to a different server. See comments here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=20867

Here is the updated config.xml. I edited it using notepad.exe.
