Well 8080 and 65000 didn't work. Should I just keep trying different ones?

Is there a way for me to run like something to see what ports are open? I don't really think I can talk to my IT department to find out what ports are opened, lol.

You're not getting to the box for some reason, and you don't know what's blocking it. Until you do you're peeing in the wind.

You can VNC through overloaded HTTPS port (443), right? That is a major hack because you're just relying on pre-existing port holes in the networks, but it at least proves your GB-PVR box can hear the outside world.

Try overloading port 80 if you have no other web (HTTP) servers on your LAN. This hack is fraught with dangers on every side (get ready for every script kiddie from Moscow to Mumbai to constantly break into your system to install malware).

If your employer isn't blocking then something on your LAN is blocking it; either a router/firewall or software firewall on the GB-PVR box. You run Windows Firewall or ZoneAlarm? Disable them temporarily and try again.

Aright, well now I'm a little confused.

When I installed UltraVNC, I had a problem getting it to connect. Someone in that forum told me to try and use 443 and it worked. It was just my office that was the problem, prob because they are blocking many ports.

I didn't open it up at home or anything. Should I not be connecting like this?

Setting GBPVR to 80 doesn't work. I do run Windows Firewall, but I am pretty sure I added GBPVR and the correct port to the exceptions list.

I just ran a couple of port scans to see if any ports are opened... I keep getting "stealthed." How is my remote access program working on 443 if that port says stealthed too. I ran a scan on the "common ports" or "TCP" ports. I also did a scan on ports in the range of 0-65000 and it showed a bunch of numbers in that range stealthed. It did not show all the ports in that range. How do i find an open port? They ALL can't be closed/stealthed can they?

I don't know what the problem is. You have to eliminate all potential blocks (like Windows Firewall) in your connectivity under your control, then establish connectivity so that you know your setup is configured right. Only then can you add the potential blocks back (one at a time, verifying connectivity after each).

If the blockage is out of your control then I don't know if you can get multiple services up on your GB-PVR box.

I've only skim read this thread (cos I'm lazy Smile) but I think the basis of your problem is two fold.
1) A fairly standard work policy (to stop people streaming tv from home, amongst other things) is to block all outgoing ports except 80 (http) 21 (ftp) and 443 (https). If you try on anything else you'll probably fail. This leaves you with a fairly limited number of things you can do, especially as you can only assign 1 application to each port - put (eg) vnc and gbpvr on the same port and you'll also probably fail.
2) windows firewall is a PITA. It's designed to keep the layman PC user safe and isn't very helpfull when you want to do 'advanced' things like run your own webserver (aka GBPVR). A while back I would have advised a 3rd party software firewall (ZoneAlarm etc.) but these too are now just too complicated and clever for their own good.

IMO The easiest route to follow would be to get a modem/router with Network Address Translation (NAT). You can then turn off the quirky and confusing software firewalls in favour of (usually) very easy to setup port forwarding...

I have that, but still run software firewalls when possible since I'm using a wireless LAN. Comodo Firewall is cheap (free) and much more powerful than ZA, but a correspondingly larger PITA to set up.

Wish I had a better idea what was blocking the original poster from accessing their box.

My office runs MS Windows 2000. I have however gotten Orb to work on this computer.

I really have limited access to what I am allowed to do on this computer. I can't install, change firewall stuff or nething like that.

I am almost positive I got Orb working using port 443. I had UltraVNC and Orb using that.
