I experience this problem fairly often as well. My problem is that I often need to restart the Recording Service to fix playback issues with a wireless MediaMVP. When I fix the playback, the result is split recordings.

I know that I can use Wiz Episode Tweaker to update the entry on the Recordings screen to point to part 1 but there doesn't appear to be any easy way to add an entry pointing to part 2. In addition, comskip doesn't run for part 1.

For my particular problem, a better solution might be to rearchitech GBPVR so that the "Recording Service" is kept separate from a "Playback Service".

What do you mean? Playback is entirely separate from recording. They run in separate processes.

Sub, I think meccano is referring to the method users have available to "fix" the PVRX2.exe process when it gets confused. Sometimes the MVP's will suddenly refuse to connect to the server and the PVRX2.exe servers have to be restarted to get the MVP's connected again. The only way I know of to restart the MVP server processes is to restart the recording service. Sad In that regard, playback (Via MVP's) is tied directly to the recording service.

Is there another way to restart those processes that won't interrupt in-process recordings?

Can't you just kill the PVRX2-instances running?
They should restart

I went back and read the beginning of this thread and noticed that no one has mentioned the SlimmGBPVR utility. If you have it running, instead of the standard GBPVR Tray app, it will warn you when a recording is in progress if you try to restart the recording service and allows you to cancel the restart request. Smile See the wiki post:
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/SlimmGBPVR

The ability to restart MVP servers without restarting the recording service would still be quite useful. Wink

forzaKGB, thanks for the tip regarding killing the pvrx2.exe processes, I never realized that they would automatically restart. I created Restart_MediaMVP.cmd with the following command and it allows me to restart the suggested "Playback Service" to which I alluded earlier:

taskkill /fi "username eq system" /im pvrx2.exe /f

taskkill is from the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Support Tools.

No more split recordings, at least for this particular reason. But split recordings do get created in other circumstances and it would still be beneficial for the WAF if end users were somehow told of these. Otherwise you get questions like - why did GBPVR only record the last x minutes of my show?

I'd like to add my support for this request. Recordings can get orphaned for all sorts of reasons, not just gefingerpoken - sub, could you not put this on your to-do list, please? Thanks.
