The settings on the playback-tab only apply to the playback through the computer screen.
This blockiness only occurs when you playback avi's/non-mpg's?
Are you running the latest GBPVR version?
You might want to check out the following lines in config.xml.

Code:
<MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE}" -b 2400k -ac 2 -ab 128 -r 25 -s 352x288 -f svcd "{DEST_FILE}"</MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL>
  <MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE}" -b 2400k -ac 2 -ab 128 -r 29.97 -s 352x240 -f svcd "{DEST_FILE}"</MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

It's likely what HtV said may help you and as you've discovered and HtV's config lines indicate... ffmpeg is an integral part of GBPVR as it converts different video file formats to mpg format to be sent to the MVP and different versions of ffmpeg may or may not support the hundreds of different command line variables that can result in a good or poor conversion.

Just to help us better help you though, could you please restate exactly what your remaining problems are. What file type(s) are you trying watch on the MVP that appear blocky. Do those same files play well with GBPVR on the PC?

Okay, excellent question (thanks) ...I had been trying two .avi files, one from the net and one recorded with my previous GBPVR incarnation. Both look fine under Hauppauge both look blocky and maybe zoomed-in some in GBPVR.

...however, an .mpg file recorded from my old GBPVR plays clear and fine...I am not sure when/why I would have instituted such a change but it appears that the old GBPVR files that I have are .mpg before 10/2005 and .avi after...the ones after are blocky and mis-sized (including things recorded right now) (on the MVP...they play fine on my computer).

The applicable MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC line is the same in my config as in the example (except that mine says -b 2400 and the example says -b 2400k).

Why would GBPVR dislike my .avi file but hauppauge like them?

Thanks.

Using the version of ffmpeg that comes with GB-PVR it would need to be -b 2400k.

Hi.

Okay, so that did the trick. .avi files look fine now. (I had not edited that on my own before.)

It looks great and I feel like I am just nit-picking but I thought I would ask...I still think that it might be showing me a cropped version of my .avi's (particularly one from the net which starts with a title on the screen and has letters cropped off from either end). I don't *think* this was the case with the Hauppauge software (at least I don't remember noticing it)...could this be fixable (if not it is hardly a big deal). (This is a Composite connected NTSC TV, Walmart, 1999, $350 27".)
Also, I tried to toggle back over to the Hauppauge just to make sure that I wasn't troubleshooting in the wrong place, but I can now no longer seem to get it to run. Touching a remote-control button was causing MediaGUI has crashed on my computer, so I tried disabling GBPVR's recording service, shutting down everything GBPVR I could find, and reinstalling Hauppauge, but nothing seems to make it work again. (Anybody know of something GBPVR might change or keep running in the background?) (I don't plan to switch back or anything...GBPVR is better for the text-size alone...I just wanted to be 100% sure that the .avi cropping was GBPVR only.)

Thanks.

I went through a similar process a couple of weeks ago. What eventually solved all the issues is the Zprocess plugin. It's great stuff. Read the installation instructions carefully though.

Zprocess will fit the picture to the TV and even let you adjust the colors if they are off (many, including I, complain about the colors being too red and too dark).

Let us know how it went.

Guy.

Thanks for the tip.

Any chance that Zprocess would get in the way of an XDVD install (mess with/change related things?) I just posted in plugins support about that not working for me (was step 2 after getting the picture straightened out). If it might complicate XDVD, I will wait to do Zprocess after.

Thanks

Sorry, but I haven't tried xDVD. Actually, I was about to install it, but then saw that the version that the wiki mentions as compatible was quite old. I decided not to mess things up, after I got everything to work and opted for burning the downloaded iso onto a DVD...

Hi Sub,
I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong. My old server is up and running working fine still but I can't get this new one to work right. Sad I have zipped up and attached the logs but I can't tell whats up from looking through them.

The symptoms are that the MVP connects and appears to be fine. I can listen to MP3's but not video. I can't through the video plugin or the YouTube one.

The bars come up when I press play and then go away and nothing every moves until I hit stop. I let it sit for 8 hours yesterday while I was out of the house and it just sat at the black screen. I pressed stop and it went back to the menu. I have no idea what to do now. Sad

Thanks for your help and time. Smile

ok, after searching and rereading around, I screwed up by installing the original Hauppauge software which was required (I think) in the early versions of GBPVR. It's working, so now I just gotta re-read around on how to get a better picture. Smile
