To make it compatible with the MVP? I'll be honest, no. You're the first person that has asked for this in the three years of GB-PVR's life, so its not a highly desirable feature.

I've added .ty to the list of known extensions for the next release, which will allow you to play the files via GB-PVR on a PC (in the same way WMP does), but it wont work on an MVP. The MVP can only play MP3/MPEG-1/MPEG-2 files. GB-PVR uses ffmpeg for converting avi files to MPEG-2 for playback on the MVP, but unfortunately the ffmpeg doesnt work with .ty files, so it wont help you solve your problem.

If someone developed the command line software for converting .ty files, then there must be some demand. If you find it in your heart to include gbpvr playback (through MVP) of TiVo files, please add it to you next release. I will certainly appreciate that feature.

Thanks!

On another forum I heard about a product TVHarmony AutoPilot which is available at tvharmony.com which might meet some of your needs.

I'm sorry, I've done pretty much all I can. See comments in my previous post.

lawnmowing Wrote:Thanks for the help, however, the tivodecode just seems like too much work. I've got TiVo Desktop on my computers and it works great... I'm looking for something like that for my MVP. Are there any plans to make gbpvr compatible with TiVo files? Is there a way to get TiVo Desktop to run on my MVP? If not, I'll probably just have to hook up my laptop to my TV and watch shows thru TiVo Desktop

The TIVO files are in one way like other files that are not natively supported by the MVP. Basically the MVP will only play MPGs. As sub mentioned before, AVI files are very very common, and so a workaround has been developed. The file needs to be transcoded on the fly, while trying to view it on the MVP.

Many people use FFmpeg (ships with GB-PVR) and MEncoder to transcode. My utility ZProcess can be used to assist transcoding...

I think, you will also need to have something transcode the TIVO file on the fly, if you wish to watch a tivo file without first manually transcoding...

If ffmpeg can handle TIVO to MPG transcoding, then we may be able to help you. I'm off to do some searching. (but don't hold your breath)

Ironic that my search on the net found sub's post a few posts back in this thread...

So ffmpeg won't do .ty files. that's going to make this difficult indeed...

I will have a stab at it. I will try and incorporate this into ZProcess...

I have downloaded tivodecode. What I need is a small tivo file that I can test with. As soon as I get a file I can start. (10-20 megs - PM me with details)

Also, if this works, sub, Maybe you could make the .ty files call the transcoder like you have wmv and avi files...

I suspect I'll be flying blind adding tivo support as apparently TIVO files are encrypted and are not portable. Therefore I would not be able to view and transcode a file someone sent me...
