this is how i do it.

using xmltvgui to define channels required, download EPG and create data.xml file

I use the UK_R_ALT_Text post processor in xmltvgui to map channel id's to channel names. In settings, this points to a text file that contains this:

999 DUMMY
92 BBC ONE
105 BBC TWO
45 BBC THREE
47 BBC FOUR
132 Channel 4
158 E4
134 five
26 ITV1 London
185 ITV2
1859 ITV3
1961 ITV4
801 UKTV History
160 FilmFour
482 CBBC
483 CBeebies

I'm really not sure whether I still need to do this or whether other users of xmltvgui also use the post processor. However, it works for me and I'm not about to start tinkering with it!

in config.exe configure capture source to use xmltv plugin, go into settings and browse for the data.xml file.

click update epg

repeat this for the second nova-t 500 tuner.

click OK
click OK to close config.exe
go back into config.exe, capture sources and select device #1
click map channels.
gvpvr will now scan for all available channels. If the channel names exactly match those from the data.xml, gbpvr will automatically map the scanned channels to those created from the xml file. If any don;t match, you just select the channel(s) manually from the drop down list.

click OK

repeat for tuner #2

click ok to exit config.exe.

No Luck.
I have done (and have been doing) all that you've mentioned gEb (and everyone else - my thanks to all of you). I just doesn't work. I click Update EPG, it claims to be saveing the new channel info but no channels are EVER added to the list so I can't map/scan 'cause it keeps saying I need to import channels - which I can't. It's driving me mad.

I've just spent the last however long trying every Grabber and PostProccessing option in XMLTV. Still no go. Everytime I lick Update EPG it "seems" to work (It claims it's saving new listing and channel info) but once finished the channels list remains un-populated. The Data.xml file generated by XMLTV has all the info in it (listings, prog descriptions etc. and channel info). GB-PVR won't import it though. Right now, considering how simple the process should be, I'm guessing it might be (yet another) Vista issue. That said no-one else seems to have the same problem.

I have managed to add some channels manually. Basically in the Edit Recording Source window I clicked "Add", channel name = BBC1 - Channel number = 1 - OK and repeated for all the channels I can receive. Then when I clicked Map Channels, finally it didn't give me the "you must import your list of EPG channels" error and I was able to do the scan and manually assign the found channels to the names and ch. positions I'd typed. This worked although it's annoying having to do it manually twice (for each tuner). That and weak channels droped off between one scan and another (and seem to crash the Live TV when I view 'em). This at least proves that GB-PVR can receive channels, it's just that I can't use a EPG to import them.

I'm fed up with the whole thing now so unless anyone can suggest a solution I'm gonna leave it for a bit before I take a hammer to the whole system! If I find a solution I'll post it here for anyone else who might be suffering. If anyone else i having the same difficulties I'd love to hear from you. I'm still curious as to why I can't use the XMLTV update EPG and everyone else can.

Try deleting the gbpvr.db3 file. Then start config app, and create your capture source, selecting to use the XMLTV EPG source, pointed at your XMLTV file. Do the update EPG.

If no channels appear, zip and attach your config.xml, your XMLTV file and your config.exe.log.

Hi Sub

I've tried deleting gbpvr.db3 and setting up again. No luck. Attached is a .zip with the file you requested. There is a whole load of config logs so I've inclued them all in case you can see a pattern. The newest logs (ie those from this re-setup after deleting gbpvr.db3) are config.exe.log and config.native.log

Data.xml is the name of the file generated by XMLTV Grabber

Thanks

Amused - I have had similar problems recently, however I use a Freecom DVB-T. I had originally had all channels and epg working fine but then about a week or so ago epg started to fail meaning I had a blank TV guide page but live TV service was working fine!!? In the end I decided to uninstall GB-PVR completely and reinstall afresh. This did the trick and all channels and epg update worked fine, in fact better than before as previously recording would sometimes lock up my system completely.

However now, a week after reinstallation it's happened again, TV guide - empty! when i go into config to do a epg update it states that its saving before its ever begun. Previously it would go through all channels on by one with a 60 second countdown.

The strange thing is that the reinstall cleared the problem temporarily but now it's returned - can any one help?

I'm sure you're doing something wrong, but I cant for the life of me think what it is.

If you've got broadband, and willing to run VNC temporarily, I'm happy to remotely connect and set it up for you.

Reproduce this problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

I think you have <BDAUsePsiParser>false</BDAUsePsiParser> in config.xml. It'd need to be set to 'true' if you want to use the DVB EPG.

I think I know what has happened, and it all relates to the fact you're running Vista, and tried to create you xmltv file as "C:\Program Files\XMLTV GUI\data.xml"

Vista has a special protection for this directory, with means that when the user attempts to write to this directory, the changes are done to the user's MyDocuments\Local\VirtualStore directory instead. So, when you running the XMLTV grabber, its producing a version of the xml file associated with your account in your account's VirtualStore directory.

When you use notepad.exe (or any other app) to view this file, it redirects you to the VirtualStore one which you've modified. When the config app runs, it runs as administrator, so its shown the real file living C:\Program Files\XMLTV GUI\data.xml, which happens to contain just an empty <tv> tag.

If you'd created this your XMLTV file in "My Documents" or "C:\Program Data", then it would have all been ok.
