Couldn't you make it a required field in the signup process?

I don't want to see your IP address, your street address, your dog's name or even what you had for breakfast today. I'd just like to know which country you're in. That doesn't seem like a major violation of anyone's privacy. :p
I suppose people do have a "right" to privacy. I guess I have the "right" to not publish my plugins on the wiki but just keep them for my own use. I also definitely have the "right" to not reply to questions on the forums. Seems to me, though, that the GB-PVR community is more about sharing stuff than worrying about one's rights. Interesting, though, that every single person who has posted to this thread so far has, in fact, got their location displayed on their post.

I've made it a required field for new registrations, with a comment indicating that having at least the country helps us know their TV standard etc - which will hopefully discourage people from entering some random garbage.

I can see it now: Solar TV. Although on the dark side, we have to catch the reflection off of Mars which makes for some crappy multipath reception.
