Sub or sslusser,

I have the M780... bought it with only the desire to watch OTA ATSC tv. I an indoor antenna (Phillips PHDTV1), and followed your directions. With 1.0.16, I see Sub added the Avermedia QAM to BDA.ini that sslusser wrote.

Questioin, is the changest to the BDA.ini just because of your location and signals, or is that something I need to do? sslusser's changes there are not in my file.

Thanks.

His change to bda.ini is only required if you need to receive QAM channels via digital cable. Since you're talking OTA, you dont need to do this.

Sub, QAM over cable is encrypted in the US, is it not? Or is it ok if you take a cable HD box and take the tv out coax into a M780 ATSC tuner? Can you give me some background?

Most US/Canada cable networks have a few unencrypted QAM channels that can be received via QAM capable capture devices. Usually only the local channels.

Got it, the FCC has MUST CARRY regulations for local networks.

but I still can not figure out the OTA thing. My scan never finds anything. I know it's hit or miss if you are not in a good location to recieve them, but the AVer Media Center that sslusser said you have to download seems to be picking them up... I say seems because it does say some are 720p or 1080i on channels like 6.1... anything with the period and 1 or 2 actually.

My setting in config are BDA Recording Plugin, the M780 (QAM) is selected, I have all the default settings... and I have tried both EPG as DVB (i don't know if that even works in the US) and Zap2it. With Zap to it, I made a second channel lineup that has only the DT channels. Is that correct, or am I completely off?

Sub, I know you're in New Zealand, but do you sleep? You always answer right away, my time or yours! You are a devoted man, and I love you for the help.

For OTA you need to have selected the "AVerMedia M780" not the "AVerMedia M780 (QAM)" entry above.

Sometimes, but definitely not enough.
