Okay, not unexpectedly you seem to be accurately predicting the cause.
What do I do to overcome this inability/lack of permission to shell out??

Continued thanks,

Continued thanks,

I was thinking about that. Don't really know. It shouldn't be a Windows Firewall problem because the program isn't passing through the Firewall...

It may be something like Norton Security that specifically has to allow apps to run properly.

Interesting as GB-PVR is an app that shells other programs. At one point or another did you have allow GB-PVR to do something?

Firewall - NO - agree it shouldn't be that, but I tested that issue just in case.
Norton or other security - NONE.
And -- I've never had to do anything to allow GB-PVR to run, in fact have been running various ver's of GB-PVR on this box for a couple of years.

Are you out of gas on this?

EDIT:
BTW, member pBS reported same problem if I recollect. Has he made any progress with these fixes???

EDIT2:
Are there other GB-PVR plugins (or parts of GBPVR itself) that do shell'ing - that we ca use as confirm/deny of this issue?? If there is another shelling plugin then we can make a valuable deduction if it runs okay.
Do you have another ZTool component that also shells that we can use to see if this inability of my environment to shell is specific to my system or is a combination of "my system plus Ztool" peculiarity?
Sorry for hassles,

Usually when someone stops posting it's cause they solved it or given up. Have no idea about pBS. He's the sort that if it doesn't work first go, he writes his own batch file - - ears ringing pBS?

I've had a suggestion to see if you have either Administrator or Power User privileges...

Have you ever used any of my other software?

Priveleges... WInXP Control Panel/USer Admin/ inidates privs set at "Computer Administrator" (POwer USer) is not shown as an option.

I don't use any ZTools (my bad) although the following executables are in the /ZTools/ dir (I had assumed they were part of prepping to use ZScedFix but maybe there were previously installed but never used)...
ZProcess.exe
Hunter.exe
ZMin2Tray.exe

ZProcess.exe
Hunter.exe
ZMin2Tray.exe

That shows that you are using ZProcess version 1. That's cool.

To see if ZProcess can shell, just open it and then on the first tab, browse to a avi file. ZProcess should shell mplayer to get file information...

Running ZProcess.exe from the /ZTools/ directory I get this message
"PLease find or create a Root Backup Output path"
After 'Okay'ing that msg box I get a "Borwse for folder' dialog box.
After selecting
"Runtime error 53: file not found" sounds (almost) familiar Smile 53 vs the prev 5

Oops, now, the maybe third time I try running ZProcess.exe, I now get the ZProcess program box. If I select a file, select "Transcode" and then do "Process" -- lo and behold, in a ZProcess msg box, the now infamous same errmsg "5: Invalid procedure call or argument"

Glad you got through the silly questions at the start...

Check your folder permissions (security) on Program Files and especially the ZTools folder. Allow everything

Sorry... I don't know what silly questions to ask.

Permissions... I have UN-checked the "Read only" permission, run ZScedFix.exe getting same errors, then rechecked permissions to find that the Read only bit is again checked. I repeated this several times with the same result: the read only bit gets turned on when I go back to check after what appeared to be a successful 'unsetting' as shown during the "Properties/Attributes/uncheck" procedure.
