Quote:(which is painfully slow when changing channels -- is that largely the fault of the slow server?)
With an analog capture device like a PVR500, live tv should take 3 - 4 seconds to change channels.

The MVP is really designed for playing files, and GB-PVR tricks it into playing live tv by playing recordings of different channels. Changing channels requires GB-PVR to stop the current recording, then start recording the new channel, and record a big enough chunk of that channel for the MVP to start playback. This type of stuff cant be instant, so you're never going to get the fast channel changes that you get on the PC using live preview mode.

You're not giving yourself credit here. I had a chance to do some testing tonight and I was able to increment the channel 20 times in 58 seconds with PVR2X2/MVP with analog HVR 1600 On the commercial STB PVR that I pay $20 a month for, this test took 76 seconds. There was a little bit of think time in between so this is not scientific but impressive nonetheless.

The only difference was interrupting a channel change was more responsive on the STB, and it hangs mvpmc so I gave myself some work.

Cheers. I dont personally think it's too bad, but I know what is going on behind the scenes. I want people to have realistic expectations. I know many people would hope it would change channels nearly instantly, like live preview mode on a PC, but that aint gonna happen Smile

Any luck with finding the cause of this? I am having the same issue with the MVP. Cheers.

I don't know why it does it, but the simple workaround is just to give the box an additional 10-15 seconds (after the main menu appears) before selecting LiveTV.

I have tried that, I have left it for 10 minutes and it still reboots no mater what I do. I can play music but not any recordings or videos from the video library.

If your video library is on a share then you have to make share that the pvrx2 server account has the appropriate permissions to access the share while it runs. If it isn't on a share make sure that you have log flushing enabled and then duplicate you error, zip up your logs and upload them.

OK I will send the logs later once I get home. I did muck around with it a bit and noticed that I can play video from the video library that are AVI files in divx format, the files that I cannot play are all recordings (I was trying to play old recordings I had moved into my video library) so maybe it is to do with codecs or something like that when converting the recordings to stream them to the MVP. FYI I also tried a different dongle but the same thing happened. Anyway I will post the logs tonight. Cheers.

Also just another quick thought, I am using 2x Hauppauge Nova S Pro digital cards to record from freeview I was wondering what BDA multiplexer I should be using and if this has much effect on streaming to the MVP? Also on that note does the Software Video Decoder have any effect? Cheers.

Yes the mux is crucial for digital content. The Cyberlink mux works very well in my experience. If you are using DVR-MS I don't think this can necessarily transcode for livetv. The logs help though.
