Quote:I then select 'Only show devices..." and then selected 1800 MCE QAM. The one thing I've noticed, to the right of 'type' is 'ATSC', shouldn't this read QAM?
Assuming you're using the current release, you should also have a "Hauppauge HVR-1800MCE (QAM)" option listed. If not, check it is present in the bda.ini file.

Quote:I'm trying to right-click on the 'logs' folder to winrar it but I get an error from winrar "cannot create logs.rar, access is denied' What do I have to do zip it?
In XP/Vista you can right click on a folder or files, then select Send To -> Compress Folder and it'll create a zip file.

Quote:just a theory, could it be that MC has control over the card?
Yes, MCE could be using it. You'd need to stop the MCE services.

Answer to QAM option listed:
Yes, the QAM option version is selected but in that same dialog box, a bit below and to the right, there's a field that says "Type" and next to it says "ATSC". When I select the ATSC version it shows the same thing. Logically I would think it would say "QAM" to the right of "Type" instead of "ATSC", point is it doesn't change. In the bda.ini file the [Hauppauge HVR-1800MCE (QAM)] entry has the tuner type set to "ATSC". But what do I know, maybe its suppose to be the same?

Response to stopped MCE services:
I've disabled in the task manager under processes the following: ehmsas.exe and ehtray.exe
Under the 'Services' Tab I've tried to stop these from running: ehSched and ehRecvr, but when right-click-select "Stop Service" I get an error box "The Operation could not be completed, Access Denied". Any work around or maybe a script that would disable MCE from using this tuner but still use the other USB Angel for analog only?
Is there anythng else I maybe missing?

Here are my Log files

It seems like can't even do a simple edit of bda.ini file. I was going to change this entry:

[Hauppauge HVR-1800MCE (QAM)]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC to QAM
TUNING_SPECIAL=2
FILTER_TUNER=Hauppauge WinTV 885 BDA Tuner/Demod
FILTER_CAPTURE=Hauppauge WinTV 885 TS Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

But I can't, Vista is really getting on my nerves. Point is if I can't do a simple edit then how the heck is GB-PVR supposed to function correctly, maybe this is the reason why I can't get to scan for QAM channels? How do enable the ability to make changes in these folders? Disable UAC?

By the way Sub, I was able to go to services and stop:
Windows Media Center Extender Service=Mcx2Svc
Windows Media Center Receiver Service=ehRecvr
Windows Media Center Scheduler Service=ehSched

but still no success scanning QAM channels

when I run "Re-RegisterFilters.bat" I get a bunch of errors, even when ran is adminstrator, "module ... failed to load'

UPDATE:
I disabled UAC and was able to edit bda.ini file but the edit from ATSC to QAM did not work. I was also able t run the "Re-RegisterFilters.bat" file successfully. I would like to figure a way to enable UAC and still be able to edit ini file and run "Re-RegisterFilters.bat" I'm attaching my filtercheck.log to see if you see anything out of the ordinary.

Still nothing, I'm about to check regular ATSC, see if I get anything there, will report back.

Again thanks 4 ur help,

Determined (thinking of changing my user name)

UPDATE2:
ATSC scan failed as well. Strength and Quality has always been 0. I guess I'm going to install WinTV again and see what happens.

It is supposted to be "ATSC". That is the digital video standard used in north america. You get ATSC being transmitted OTA (over the air) using 8VSB modulation, and you get ATSC being transmitted on digital cable using QAM modulation. They're both ATSC.

Leave it as "ATSC".

Yeah, thats worth doing. Check you're getting QAM channels in WinTV and report back.

No. As long as you're not watching live tv or recording at the time, then WinTV works fine and is not bothered by GB-PVR being on the machine.

I believe I have found the answer here:

http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthr...030&page=2

It has to do with the trial version of SageTV, when uninstalled it doesn't restore the dll "psisdecd.dll", this is the command line to restore SageTV's doing:

The command is: regsvr32 \windows\system32\psisdecd.dll

To run this, you could either run it in Start -> Run, type all that in (or copy/paste), hit Ok and see if that fixed the problem.

OR you could go into the command prompt, type that in, hit enter and see if that fixes the problem.

I'm now able to tune QAM & ATSC!!!!!

Thank U

I used to think that Sage should have fixed that problem. I no longer fault developers for problems with the installer packages they use. Sometimes it's just out of their hands.
