pvrx2 does not work with vmr7 only vmr9
once you have all your setting as you want them try FSE (makes huge differnce if using hardware acceleration)
evr on xp wont take advantage of your video card so dont waste your time there

My bad I did mean VR9 custom/FSE. i have installed .net 3.5 and can display EVR in Windows XP. I just installed the PureVideo codec but I cannot locate it anywhere and it is not in config.exe. Is there a further step i must take to use this codec?

Cheers!

yes evr will work with xp but you cant use the full potential of your video card (cant use hardware accelaration of card so cpu does all the work still)
if your computer is fast enough then this isnt always a problem
but i cant see the point in having a good video card if you are not going to use it

for pure video:
try setting the video decoder to default then play a mpeg, in the task bar the purvideo icon should show up if you click on that you will get the properties of it
makie sure you are using vmr custom or evr to do this

stustunz Wrote:i would run vista on a minimum of 2 gig of ram (probably not your only problem though)
others say that one harddrive is fine but i reckon if you are trying to record and playback at the same time 2 physical harddrives is better
try different refresh rates resolutions you should find a sweet spot
you say you tried the different decoders but did you try changing the renderer (vmr fse or evr since you are using vista)

is this the same machine you had xp on or a totally new system ?

It is the same system that I ran xp on, I need to go through today and try some of these ideas. Thanks for all the help
