Can someone who knows things about electricity and wires comment?

the digital audio will only be one wire plus the earth which is obvious
i have no idea which one but i dont see why you couldnt do this if you knew which wire

If I get an ATI2400 Pro which has a HDMI output on it would I be correct in thinking that all I would need is a normal HDMI to HDMI cable and I would get both sound and video on the tele?

An ordinary DVI-HDMI cable or a non-ATI adapter will not work (well, it won't send the sound, only the video)...you gotta use the ATI adapter.
I am using the adapter that came with the card, and do NOT have sound at the TV. Again, it could be a setting in Windows to direct sound to the ATI output rather than my sound card...

There should be a little 2 pin connector on the card. Connect that to the SPDIF out of your soundcard/motherboard.

I'm using the optical out on my integrated soundcard. It's run to my receiver via a Toslink cable. But I see what you mean, I figured there was something required for using the HDMI. I may give that a shot and report back

I am thinking of getting this card

ASUS 2400PRO 256MB DDR2 DVI VGA HDCP HDTV out Silent PCI-E Graphics Card

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132321

Its fanless and according to silent PC review only uses 7.5W more than an IGP

http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/vie...hp?t=44420

The bit that I am getting lost on however is the sound output. It does not come with an DVI to HDMI adapter dongle. If I use a dvi to hdmi cable instead will I then get sound and video out of my LCD tele?

Apparently not. You need a special ATI adapter a standard DVI to HDMI cable does not work. Can anyone recommend a fanless 2400pro that ships with the adapter?

I dunno...here's the pinout info...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdmi

If I read it right, the audio goes over the TMDS channel so it's not just a wire in the bundle. I wonder what the ATI adapter does that's so special...

Searching for 'hdmi pinout' yields the above & a lot more that I don't have time to peruse right now...

Does your card have a fan? Could you give me the link or model number of the card that you brought.
