hmm.. but don't the 7600GS/GT varieties support H.264 decode acceleration? The chart from nVidia's website indicates as such: http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_43029.html

I guess you would need to use the new PureVideo HD decoder for that? Some googling finds examples of HTPC's and even some OEM Sony Vaios having smooth BluRay playback with the 7600GS/GT PCI-E.. so I would think you would get good results with your setup.

I had an AGP version of the 7600GS. Contrary to what their feature tables say, its widely known that all these extra features are disabled in the AGP drivers. You pretty much only get MPEG2 acceleration.

Also, the DVB-T H.264 channels and I refer to above (and HD-DVD, and Blu-Ray) need the 'H.264 Decode Acceleration with IDCT and CAVLC/CABAC' feature listed in that PDF file. (ie, pretty much only the nvidia 8500/8600 devices). I dont know much about the H.264 encodings produced by this device yet, so I'm not sure if that'll be needed or not.

ah, I see.. I have the PCI-E 7600GT and playing a 1080p H.264 movie trailer puts the CPU at around 50% (using CoreAVC decoder, VMR9 Custom renderer on Vista Home Premium).. but of course, bitrates are key and that's not known yet for this upcoming device.

I guess we'll just wait and see for your report into what sort of H.264 this device spits out.

And thank you so much for taking the initiative to incorporate this it into GB-PVR.

I am waiting excitedly for this card to come out...

any ideas if the files that it creates will work with the popcorn hour?

Surely if the broadcast material had the ICT flag set then capture of HD over component/analog would be impossible?
Cheers

Sure, but I dont know of any current broadcasts that use the ICT flag. I'm not even sure if it is something that can be carried in the US ATSC/QAM broadcasts - which are the target market for this device.

Its unlikely that existing broadcast channels will add the ICT flag in future, since it'd force a major problem for the large percentage of the US market that have HDTV sets only capable of getting HD via component video.

At this stage ICT is a non-event, and not worth worrying about for the majority of people.

Yes, I've just done a quick check and the files seem to play just fine.

Hi sub, I've got a couple of questions on the file

- How good is the a/v sync? Hauppauge's PVR 150 issues come to mind and this seems to be even more challenging especially if this unit has digital audio in.

- Is the file stored as a raw mpeg-ts/ps file or in a container?

Earlier in this thread, Sub mentioned that the card does not "pass-through" the component video. I was reading a thread in the avsforum and one poster had this to say about his demo at the CES convention:

"I was also there getting a demo... From what I could understand, the spec were:

480p-1080i60 res support. 5-25Mbs CBR & VBR h264 main profile L4.0. Component Video In, S-Video In, Composite Video In...plus Component Out for pass-thru. RCA LR Audio for AAC and SPDIF Audio for Dolby Surround. SPDIF and RCA Audio Pass-Thru.
Capture to file or burn AVCHD onto standard DVDs for playback in BD players.
Nice......"

Sub, does it indeed have the pass-through feature? Or is this another case of mis-information so frequent in new product reports!
