Using NextPVR 5, the "re-scan for device" setting isn't able to pull up my Magewell capture device.

Attached is the filtercheck output, which does see the device. Note that I'm using with component video and it also has a 3.5" analog audio line-in for the audio which is why you see it show up multiple times. I have tested with other capture software and I can see the video+audio.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Correct - that device will not work with NextPVR out of the box.

You might be able to get it working with an "extra", which is like a custom plugin for devices (really just an executable or batch file that gets called), where you use a utility like ffmpeg to access the device and produce a transport stream.

The closest devices to that which are supported, are the Hauppauge HDPVR2 style devices. (which are HDMI capture devices)

If it is an HDMI grabber check this thread https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=61774 for instructions. I can use it in Windows and linux.

Thanks. The reason I was hoping to use this device was because it was USB3, could do up to 60fps, supported component video, and had a ton of options to control the stream. My use case is both for PVR as well as live streaming since Slingbox is going away.

I have a quite old HD-PVR 1212 which is supported but I don't particularly trust to work 100% of the time. And if I'm not at home I can't easily reboot the thing remotely since it is independently powered versus USB powered.

Would your suggestion be to move to the HD-PVR2? Have you seen it work better and more reliably than the 1212? I see there is a component cable for at least some variants of it so I could pick that up if needed. Also open to any other tuner, but this computer has no PCIe slots so it's USB only. Thanks in advance.

Main reason I'd go the HDPVR2 vs the original HDPVR is that it's a lot newer, and it supports HDMI. It doesn't do 1080p60, but TV broadcasts don't do 1080p60 anyway, so...

The Hauppauge Colossus2 is effectively the HDPVR2 in PCIe form. Hauppauge do have an HDMI 1080p60 device, but I don't trust it as much - it is developed by the 3rd party company.

If you're intending streaming live gaming or whatever, thats a different type of software, and different use-case, which I can't provide too much advice on.

Thanks, no live game streaming here. Just trying to provide a method to replace my Slingbox, which streamed whatever was on my TV box to both my mobile client and laptop. I believe NextPVR can do the same thing (at least on my local LAN it can), and was looking for an upgraded device. My use case is 1080p, 30fps minimum, component video. Don't need HDMI as my source has HDCP and I'm not interested in defeating copy protection.

I am going to return the Magewell device and ordered an HD-PVR2. Thanks for the recommendation, and worst case scenario I'll just get a device that allows me to turn on/off the external power remotely.

When it comes to HDMI capture from a set top box, the best think you can do is tell the set top box to output a specific resolution all the time. (otherwise you can get bad streams that contain a bit off two resolutions at the start of the recording, and the clock resets when the resolution changes, which causes playback issues)

Thanks, no HDMI capture here - I'm component+SPDIF.

I bought the HD-PVR2 and it's working just fine. I also picked up a wifi-enabled plug that is controlled via an app. In the event the device hangs up while I am gone I can now 'reboot' it remotely by flipping the power on/off.
