Open config.xml in notepad, turn off word wrap. Line 8 will start with <SupportedDecoders> and will look like this (some entries removed):
Code:
<SupportedDecoders>bitcontrol® MPEG-2 Video Decoder,...,CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (ATI),CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD7)</SupportedDecoders>
Add "CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD8)," inside the tag (note the comma) so it starts
Code:
<SupportedDecoders>CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD8),bitcontrol® MPEG-2 Video Decoder,
No space after the comma.
Go down to line 10 and do the same to <SupportedDVDDecoders>

whurlston, as always thanks. I had already figured that out. I added it at the end of the entry though, I hope that doesn't make a difference. Config is definitely detecting it, now we'll see what happens when I get home.

I am trying to accelerate dvr-ms and regular SD mpeg. Right now, it's not doing it.

You're welcome. It doesn't make any difference where in the tag you place it.

Ok this did work, and it is accelerating. However, ATI avivo works a little better at 43% for 1080i. Cybervideo runs at about 50%. Another thing I noticed was that the cybervideo spreads the load evenly amongst both processors but avivo tends to prefer the cpu 2 more.

If it was accelerating I'd expect the cpu to be a lot lower...

What makes you think it's accelerating?

Because it's not a lot higher?

This is 1080i remember. The older version of cyberlink had me pegged up at 85% of BOTH processors.

I'm not really sure how to check 100% for sure if it is really accelerating. All I know is that there are some codecs that show up 2x what others do in CPU use so I am assuming those aren't accelerating. I could be wrong - maybe none of them are

Now I'm confused

Well, I'm not an expert on this by any means but I have pretty much the same system as you have except my cpu is a 5000 x2. I've tried a few decoders and they all run between 35 and 60% cpu on a 1080i file. The Purevideo is the worst, around 60%. Next is the Avivo at around 45-50%. Ffdshow seems to be the best, at about 35-45%. I don't think any of them are accelerating.

My other system is a 4000+ x2 in an HP box. With an 2600XT card it runs about 15% cpu on a 1080i file and I know its accelerating because there's a selection in the Catalyst Control Center that shows gpu usage and it indicates about 80%. With acceleration turned off, cpu runs about 90% and gpu about 10%. That indicator is not available in the CCC on the other system...hmm...maybe the 3200 doesn't do acceleration? Or the drivers aren't there yet? I dunno...

purevideo cant accelerate HD stuff
you need the 8xxx nvidia cards to use nvidia decoder to get hardware acceleration (from what i have read and how i understand it)
i think its included in the video card driver unlike purevideo

I don't think purevideo itself does the acceleration but it seems to control whether hardware acceleration is used. If I check the 'Hardware acceleration' box it uses about 15% cpu and about 85% gpu. Clearing the box pretty much reverses that. That's with the 2600 card. It has no effect on the other system with the 3200 on-board. That's playing a 1080i dvr-ms file in PVRX2 using the VMR9 renderer. Like I said, I don't know a lot about this stuff, this is based on observations.

Hey Zed
what does it say in the purevideo decoder properties (when you turn the HW accel on and off ) decoder format
just interested probably doesnt mean anything
