I'm trying to do a fresh install of XP on a new drive because my old install is corrupt several times over (freezes, resets), not to mention old. One problem is the old install writes to my Sata drives at around 2MB/s, and after trying to fix that through a series of published fixes for that type of problem, I've decided to go with the new install.

The main thing holding me back from using the new installation right now is that I can't find the serial number for the copy of WinDVD that came with my plextor CD, though I have the CD, so I can't install it on the new XP install.

The old XP install is still intact, and I still use it daily so I can keep my tv402u recording, so presumably the codecs are all in place there, they just need to be registered on the new install (i hope?)

Sub posted a long time ago the two things were the Intervideo audio encoder and Intervideo MPEG mux. But if there were any GBPVR files that might point to the exact file name, that would be a big help. Any ideas about where to look?

Thanks.

Sorry, support for these GO7007SB devices was dropped long ago. For the last year or so new users are not been given the option to setup a capture source for this type of device.

This old functionality relied on two filters that came with the device's software: "InterVideo Multiplexer" and "InterVideo Audio Encoder". I dont know where else you could find these files.

try copying over the filters [you can use GSpot to find them] and re-registering them...[regsvr32 XXXXX.ax]

but if that doesn't work, you could always just transfer your existing windows as-is to a new drive...Smile
i bet it's the drive causing the slowness, if not you can do a 'repair' XP install after it's on a new drive..

there's a sweet, tiny, simple free software to do this...CopyWipe..
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/copywipe.php
it can even continue if it finds errors on old drive...
resultant drive will be bootable and partition can be stretched to size of new drive..
it just copies everything as-is so nothing to adjust after..Smile

I was trying to remember what that program was called earlier. Smile Thanks

There were several reasons I didn't move the old partition to the new drive. One is that the OS seems to have been damaged in subtle ways that are beyond the ability of repair install to reach. I couldn't complete a repair install until I did a lot of digging for a specific db repair tool. Then once I did complete a repair install, I applied SP3 because I read it does such a thorough job of replacing system files that it often corrects system errors that can't be gotten to by other means.

It worked well for a month or so after that and then the freezing began again, albeit, far less often to begin with. Another reason is that that (this) install is very old. Last time I reinstalled I had all kinds of import, driver, software problems so I didn't do another reinstall for a long time, but this time, other than the serial number to the intervideo software, it actually went pretty smoothly.

The fresh install runs my satas at full speed and is completely stable, even has a little bit of bounce in its step.

Fortunately GSpot was happy to sort by codec name, because I had a lot of codecs to sort through. Anyway the two were easy enough to find and all is now well.

Thanks.
