Can you post your pvrx2.exe.log and pvrx2.exe-native.log showing this? It should show the MPEG2 demultiplexer being used. There is no way a digital device will do anything in GB-PVR without this filter.

Not sure if its a factor, but using the old interface, pvrx2, even with overlay doesn't work via rdp....

And yeah I could see the note in there about the mpeg2 demultiplexer...

Loaded graph edit and it had the mpeg2 demultiplexer in it.

Must be something in my hacked gbpvr install....It was mostly a copy from my prod box since the install didn't work..

Yeah MPEG-2 Demultiplexer is definitely shown there.

Is this Vista?

Hmm... I have an idea.

If you install the Cyberlink mux, and set that as the preferred mux, does the problem go away?

nope, thought i'd tried that, then because i thought it might have been a mux issue I switched to dvr-ms.

Still the same, and sill complains about the mpeg2 demux..

I just checked i could actually play an mpeg2 file on that machine and i can. If in overlay, should I be able to see the live tv? if not, I'm guessing that part of the problem?

It sounds like something funny has happened with that filter's registry information, making it only available under your account, and not to the localsystem account (which runs the recording service). To prove the idea, you try stopping the recording service, then running "GBPVRRecordingService.exe RUN" from the command line. It'll start a background process (in your desktop session) as your user account, and it'll probably be able to find the "MPEG-2 Demultiplexer" filter. You'll be able to see the process listed in Task Manager, and will have to kill it from there.

If thats the case, I dont really have any ideas on how to fix it, and you might need to reinstall Windows.

well I kind of did what you said....but I changed the service to run under this user account rather than a different user one. And now I have a file being created....

So as usual you were right.

On a somewhat related point about your earlier comments. I tried a fresh re-install of gbpvr a few weeks ago on my laptop and it would not finish (XP Home). It would completely back out of the install at the last minute (I think at the point of registering filters IIRC). I was only able to get it to install by first installing a previous version. I had seen several similar threads similar, but none offered a solution. I don't record or watch videos on my laptop so I don't know if it works.
