I'm also guessing your faster machine will struggle with TV1/2/3, which are all broadcast as high definition H.264. Until I got video card capable of hardware H.264 acceleration, my machine couldnt play these recordings smoothly, and it was fairly up-spec with AMD X2 4400+ CPU and Nvidia 7600GS video card.

Your machines would be OK for the satellite version of Freeview though, which is standard definition MPEG2.

Unfortunately those files arent a very good representation. You can find some real sample files here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?For...icId=21069

There isnt many choice when it comes to audio decoder. You can get the monogram AAC audio decoder from here: http://blog.monogram.sk/janos/2008/04/20...oder-0950/

For video decoder you need am H.264 decoder. Some people have been getting it from here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=34684

ok sounds like im going to have to bite the bullet - do you think this mainboard with onboard video will do the trick - would be good if it could since it has onboard HDMI aswell.
