Memory Question

Yeah, my great deal just went up $30.
This is also my first experience with Vista. Not liking it.

I assumed that there would be one 1gb memory card in it. Turns out there are two 512mb cards. Since there are only two slots, I either have to replace one and settle for 1.5gb, or return the 1gb for a 2gb.
It's never easy!

Two matched memory modules are needed to permit the system to operate in dual channel mode for optimum performance. It would be best to get two 1 GB modules. Also, I thought 2 GB was recommended for Vista.

I was going out this morning to exchange the 1g for a 2g, however after reading your post, i opted to just buy another 1g. It makes me feel a little better that they put in the two 512mb's for a reason rather than to save money.
You're right about the 2g recommendation for Vista. That's why I wanted to upgrade.

Looks like you still have a great deal on that system, even with the extra cost for the memory. Although, it makes me wonder why they sell a system which needs 2GB with less. btw: some laptops will accept two 2GB modules, but can only address about 3GB total. It pays to double check the specs.

the other weird thing is why do so many office systems only have bugger all ram
to me the ram is the first thing you look at upgrading but so many IT guys sell people whole new systems when all they needed was more ram
