I used to use NVidia but it doesn't work that well with Vista/EVR. I've tried most of the decoders listed and the Arcsoft decoder gives me the best picture/performance.

strange how some decoders work better for different hardware configs.

powerdvd8 has given my vista gbpvr machine flawless mpg2 decoding with evr renderer (with analogue and DVB-T sources). previous decoders were either ghosting or blurred with fast movement.

That's why there is no definitive "Best decoder to use" thread. Wink

also maybe want to list ATI Avivo...works great with EVR and some with vmr9..
it does do acceleration even on my Intel chip..

and, powerdvd is not a decoder in itself, it uses decoders...[cyberlink]
so would confuse people between playing with powerdvd, and playing with cyberlink codecs from powerdvd inside gbpvr...[where they can't use rendering tweaks like powerdvd app can]

a poll long overdue...Big Grin

might also wanna mention OS, as many don't work same in vista [if at all]

No Gabest MPV listed? For shame.

Been playing with PDVD7 or 8 (PowerDVD) for a bit, otherwise I'd be using Gabest or Dscaler5. Bitcontrol seemed nice too, but it's not free.

Gabest MPV has easily been the most reliable for me which is why it's usually the first thing I recommend to people with video problems.

Hated PureVideo. Twice.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

the trick with pure video is to raise the merit to the top with gspot then select default as your video decoder
but dont go installing anything or it will break again Smile

ffdshow, simply because I use its warp resize to scale 4:3 material to my 16:9 plasma.. I can't stand just a normal stretch.

Gabest MPV. Both Cyberlink and Purevideo act up on my machine and my pc's too slow for ffdshow.
