sub Wrote:You could try increasing the live tv pre play delay on the client

i can't believe, this fixed it for me! sub, you made my day (once again)!Big GrinBig Grin

@lost@c: open config.xml and do make a search for "ClientModeLiveTVPrePlayDelay" >> set from 2000 to 6000 and it works out fine!
(i allways tried with live-tv-settings on client playback-tab, but that seems to be something different???)

i can deal with this 6 sec. easily, no problem at all... sub, do you have any idea, why it's so slow at least on some systems?

The mux used by digital devices can take a while to start producing data. Analog devices are much quicker to output a .mpg stream.

Good to hear it got it working for you.

OK. This morning I have done a lot of testing and have made the following observations

Changing the "ClientModeLiveTVPrePlayDelay" on the server has no effect on the client
Changing the "ClientModeLiveTVPrePlayDelay" on the client does affect the problem. It either freezes at exactly the predelay time (after I see the channel change and I get some of the new live TV) at which time I need to "CTL,ALT,DEL" to restart plus restart the recording service on the server as it is still running the new channel, or, it freezes and I am able to "EXC" back to the menu. I have experimented with the "ClientModeLiveTVPrePlayDelay" times between 500 and 10000 and get similar results, although longer times seem to provide the "EXC" option more often. I have also experimented with processing as there was some reference to it in the client log files. I only use comskip (no other transcoding) but turning this off on either client or server , or both seems to have no effect either. I have attached the log files again if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated as I would love to get this going on 2 PC's around my house.

which version of cyberlink multiplexer are you running?
mine is MpgMux.ax version 5.0.3906

in your CLIENT PC logs i still see client preplay delay set to 2000
2008-10-11 07:00:36.953 VERBOSE [1] getValue: /settings/ClientModeLiveTVPrePlayDelay : 2000

when i first set to 4000, it did not work reliably on all channel changes. set to 6000 and now i can surf up and down again without freezes

My version is 5.0.1307 which I am picking is older than yours. I'll try to find the same version as yours and give that a go.

I set the delay back to 2 seconds after trying all the differnt times.

OK it's been a while since I have had time to tackle this, but updating to the later version of the MUX has not helped. I will leave it for now as I am going to do a rebuild of my client PC soon and will tackle again then.
Thanks for all the input from everyone. Much appreciated

Success! After installing 1.3.7 I spent some time on this. I have had success by using the TS mux on the server and file sharing on the client. Previously I got poor performance with file sharing which is why I persevered with streaming, however, the performance is now fine AND I can change channels and not have the freeze.

Now to roll this out to the other PC’s in the house – wish me luck!
