@Andrewh, as zehd posted, the hauppauge cards do save the CC data in their captures from an analog source. You also should be able to view the CC in the original source stream, but can't give you as much of a hint as zehd did - sorry.

LOL. to be clear. Sometimes there are hints, and sometimes there is faulty memory, which I admit looks the same...

In this case it's faulty memory

I am using 2 of the 2250 cards on a xp sp3 machine. Just recording analog tv.
I set it up based on the instructions, but still do not get cc.

My 1600 card records analog OTA channels with CC. To watch them with CC I use Nvidia Video Decoder ( look for nvidia.purevideo.decoder.v4.02.223 or other versions on the net).

Mikiem,
I added the "Can I see closed caption (CC) when watching OTA HD TV in USA (ATSC)?" article in the wiki and am willing to add to it, modify, etc. once there is new information available.

So, where does the article have to be modified?

Please note that I wrote this article for ATSC users. If you want to cover any US transmission, I am not familiar with that. But you can write an article about it, gain access to wiki and post it; or I will post it for you since I have access already.

I have an HVR-1600 and use ffdshow as my MPEG-2 decoder, and it is able to display closed captions just fine (for analog/NTSC) through the Subtitles option if you check "decode closed captions"

Of course I didn't want them turned on all the time, so what I did is went into the Keys and remote option and enabled the remote message API, and set the key combination for toggling Subtitles to something. Then, I went into the irremote.ini and set the Yellow key's action to first give focus to the ffdshow handle and then send the combination. This way, pressing the yellow button toggles the closed captions on and off when watching TV. (btw, since I use ffdshow across the board, this method still works when wanting captions on a DVD, or on some other video file that has a .srt, etc)

As an added trick, I programmed my Harmony remote to have the Mute button in my 'watch tv' activity to both send the "yellow" key and the Mute signal to my TV. This gives me exactly what I wanted, CC on Mute. (or of course, CC on demand when I hit the key assigned to yellow)

If you'd like I can write up exactly what needs to be set/changed. perhaps it would be good for the wiki.

I am using Windows XP Professional and GB-PVR v1.2.9 in the UK.

I have enabled teletext, subtitles and close-caption settings but cannot access or see any of them in live TV.

I understand that subtitles are toggled using CONTROL+Y but when I press the keys nothing happens though other keyboard combinations do work.

I also use MediaPortal with the same card ( V-Stream Xpert DTV DVB-T PCI card) and can get subtitles and teletext on that with no problem.

I'm just wondering if:-

a) setting all three features somehow causes interference between them

b) the subtitles and teletext are dependent on the decoders & renderers used

Any information would be greatly appreciated please. TIA.

Sorry, DVB Subtitles are broken at this stage. Hopefully they'll return in a future release.

Many thanks for that.

On the forum someone said that the subtitles work in v1.2.13.

I'm using v1.2.9 which seems to work well on my system ( I've tried the other two later versions).

Just wondered if I copied the PVRX2 from the v1.2.13 version into my current version, would that work please? Nothing happens when I use CONTROL+Y at present. I know they work as they appear when I use Mediaportal.

Also are there zip versions of GBPVR which allow you to access individual components please?

Any help would be greatly appreciated please. TIA.

There is lots of different types of subtitles. They wouldnt have been talking about "DVB Subtitles". DVB Teletext subtitles, analog Teletext subtitles, MKV subtitles, SRT Subtitles etc worked in 1.2.13 (and 1.3..7 etc). DVB Subtitles have been broken for a long time (18 months or so ago).

Sorry, no there isnt. I only provide an msi installer.
