soccerdad Wrote:To help sort your stuff out, I strongly suggest installing dvbdream and aiming using their aiming utility. It is also a little easier to pick the lnb settings. It is free. Then, once you are aimed, you can easily set up gbpvr. A good compass is a big help too. I use legacy lnbs without issue and no extra power. How many transponders are you trying to look at at one time?

Thanks for the comment soccerdad. There are 2 interesting bits here. The first is that your name was also in my original post, to try to draw a post from you. (I took it out before I posted) I read lots of your helpful posts while trying to come up to speed. The second interesting thing is that I was in the process of downloading dvbdream as I'd read it had built in support for the DPP and worked well with the Twinhan. It's good to know it has some pointing aids.

However, as I sat at the computer to d/l dvbdream, I received a reply to an email I had sent. It contained an offer to sell me some old satellite receivers and dishes with DishPro Twin LNBFs. Late last night I picked all this stuff up, so I've got some new options for pointing and some new options on the LNBF. The DP Twin apparently requires far less power than the DPP and is less likely to lock up and refuse to switch. I've also got an excellent compass (although I'm not totally sure what part of the dish is supposed to be lined up on the heading, and it's tricky to keep the compass from being affected by the steel bits while trying to line it up).

I think with the new stuff I should be able to get the dish pointed, and from there I should be able to start figuring out GBPVR. (I think more wiki help would be great)

Thanks for the comments everyone - I'll let you know how it goes.
