Quote:The gbpvr config does not give me an option of selecting the H.264 decoder that came with the 1212 HD PVR (it should be under the software ArcSoft). So right now H.264/AAC/AC3 decoders are all set to system default.
As mentioned, this will be your problem. You dont have any decoders installed. Install some decoders, and select something other than 'system default'.

The ArcSoft decoders shipped with the newer HD-PVR TME software are not usable in third party apps, so you'll need to install some other H.264 decoder (and AAC/AC3 decoder). For example, Cyberlink, older ArcSoft, or CoreAVC decoder.

Quote:When I click on the ... tab (so that I can browse to the ArcSoft dir), nothing happens.
This is normal. The "..." button shows the settings of the selected decoder. "system default" means no decoder is selected, so it wont do anything.

I am looking for something that is available for free. Cyberlink & CoreAVC are sold as products. Since I ArcSoft came with the 1212 purchase, I was hoping I could use it's decoder.

Wonder if this works (divX) seems to be free:http://www.divx.com/en/downloads

Sorry, thats just the way it is at the moment with H.264 decoders.

Older versions of the TME software installed ArcSoft decoders that were usable by third party apps, but they changed that recently.

You could try finding the ArcSoft decoders (AsVid.ax etc) under the TME directory, and try running "regsvr32 AsVid.ax" to register the components, in hope that they'll show up for other apps after that. If you're on Vista, you'd need to start a command prompt with 'run as administrator' and change to the directory, and run the register command line from there.

No, that work as a decoder in GB-PVR.

Thats probably not the correct file to try registering.

On my machine the ArcSoft H.264 decoder is called AsVid.ax.

No it doesnt. As mentioned earlier, H.264 decoders are not as interchangeable as MPEG2 decoders, so the app has to build in special support for each H.264 decoder. I havnt done this with the ffdshow decoder.

I selected the arcsoft decoder in config dorp down. Still no picture.

What are the acc & ac3 codec files called under the archsoft dir? Here's a dir listing:

You can't register the Arcsoft dll files. You need to register the .ax files and they will dynamically load the dlls they need. As sub mentioned though, ArcSoft has started locking down their newer decoders so they can't be used in third party applications, so you may need to look at alternatives. I can't remember if the MPC decoder is supported by GBPVR or not.
