There is a good chance you are right and this caused the issue. I remember having an issue with that Vista update too. One of them failed to load, but by the next morning all of them had been auto-installed. Good chance they were not done in order. I will try to use a restore point. Considering this is also the home PC for my wife, I will have to find the right time to tinker. Cheers.

Darn, my restore points don't go past 30 days... makes it hard to fix. I will have to hope for a future patch of some sort.

Hey just so you know, I finally got this issue resolved using the simple update to the hosts file from this recent thread. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=43004

I think that some combination of windows updates, depending on the order they're installed in, results in the hosts file losing the ip4 localhost entry.
