Can you try running ReRegisterFilters.bat then try scanning again?

If that doesnt help, post the config.exe.log and config.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

Hi Sub - I did rerun the ReRegisterFilters.bat successfully and then did the channel scan again (using the QAM as source) where it once again turned up nothing (and these scans take a bit of time).

I want to make sure we're on the same page. The two log files that you're referencing, aren't these strictly logging GBPVR system activity? All the channel scans I've been reference are using WinTV so would those log files still be helpful? BGD

No, the logs are for GBPVR only. Also, the qam.ini manager would have no effect on the WinTV7 scan.

Yep, what he said. You'll need to try the qam.ini manager, then do the scan in GBPVR's config app.

Sorry for the delay in responding - I will give the (GBPVR) scan a try tonight and see how it goes. Thanks for the continued assistance on this guys...I'll let you know how it goes. BGD

First, save a copy the qam.ini & then remove all but a couple lines. You can add them back when you have everything working. (See the note below about how to tell it how many lines to try.)

For me, none of the samples in the QAM manager worked. My values were slightly different than each of the included files.

Mine looks like this:
Code:
[CABTYPE]
1=All Countries
2=All Frequencies

[DVB]
0=12
1=528250,75,75
2=534250,76,76
3=540250,77,77
4=546250,78,78
5=552250,79,79
6=570250,82,82
7=576250,83,83
8=582250,84,84
9=588250,85,85
10=594250,86,86
11=600250,87,87
12=774250,121,121

Note that the line after [DVB] indicates how many different frequencies will be attempted. I would do just two to three to start so you don't have to wait as long for the scan.

You'll see for instance, for channel 75, I use 528250, but the QAM.INI manager setting for STD uses 535250 & for HRC it uses 535000. You could use the Silicon Dust site to find the channels for your location & pick two of them. When I use the term channel here I am referring the frequency that has multiple sub-channels. For my zip code, if I look at the listing for channel 74, I see 74-hrc1, 74-hrc2, etc. So pick your channel & try multiple scans with by changing the values for the frequencies. The frequncy for each channel goes up by 6000, so increase it by 1000 each time. Also try three zeros at the end or 250. (See the examples I listed above.) I don't understand where those numbers come from. I found mine through trial and error. By doing only one or two channels each scan, it won't take as long to go through all the possible values.

A side note, Comcast recently added all the standard cable channels to QAM. I used to get only the local channels in high def & standard def, but now I get things like ESPN, USA, TNT, etc. I think it has something to do with a letter I got that the analog channels would go away in November.

I found TSReader Lite helpful, although it uses even slightly different frequencies (channel 75 is 530 MHz). You can get it here. The Lite version is freeware for personal use.

ElihuRozen - Thank you for that very detailed posting, it really helped my grasp of the concepts and layed out a nice strategy. I was in the initial process of incrementally testing a few frequencies/channels and the qam.ini file that I'm updating is simply not being used by the tuning assistant. The location of the qam.ini file for me is C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\BDA\Atsc - what would be the correct path? BGD

I'm not sure when the file gets read. Probably when you press rescan, but it could be when config is started.

The file gets read whenever you click "Map digital channels to EPG channels". So you can just exit the mapping screen and restart it.

You may want to change the last two values of each tuning string to "0,0". If I remember correctly, any other value can cause multirecord to not work properly. Having it as "0,0" does not have any ill effects.

Code:
[CABTYPE]
1=All Countries
2=All Frequencies

[DVB]
0=12
1=528250,0,0
2=534250,0,0
3=540250,0,0
4=546250,0,0
5=552250,0,0
6=570250,0,0
7=576250,0,0
8=582250,0,0
9=588250,0,0
10=594250,0,0
11=600250,0,0
12=774250,0,0

You guys have been giving me great information, I just cannot get anything to work...I'm sure the issues are on my side.

Several things are happening:

(1) there are certain terms and descriptions that just do not map to what I see on the interfaces (e.g. press rescan...there's no such option/button where I've been looking, click the "Map digital channels to EPG channels" button...it has never been active/enabled (i.e. grayed out) in my config screen

(2) my gvpvr version is 1.0.16 so there may be newer capabilities that I do not have

(3) the gbpvr system has been so stable that I've not had to do much over the past year and my knowledge of things is just dated

I really appreciate the help but things look pretty bleak here. BGD
