Ive always wanted some kind of pc-a/v connection, but we had a large amount of tv channels until late. Now, we're on a break with that stuff. Forced me to installed the MVP.

I love the audio side of this, streaming and local files (I'd drifted away from listening to my own cd's at the living room (too lazy to look thru, find cd, tray it, pop around, untray it next cd etc).. now, anything on the pc is there with a click ! Wonderful ! (gonna scan in my whole collection when I upsize my hd). Im finally listening to music in the living room again. Smile

Flipping thru our photos at the tv is neat. Although we have way too many in our main folder from the dig cam.. wish there was a way to numerically skip-to via the remote.

We use the weather forecast daily, of course.

Since I have no live tv available (theres only 3 ota stns here, all suck), Ive been playing with vodcasts via Miro. (and wrote a util to convert the whatever format into mpegs for the MVP.. see the developers forum). There's alot of cool stuff available as vodcasts.

So, in summary.. the 'best part' of our GB-PVR system right now is the audio, but video is coming up quick behind it.

For me, multi room (via pch), and having everything together. The wife is really liking showing off the baby photos on the TV rather than having to use a laptop.

The other advantage for me is not needing to pay for a subscription for the only other DVR solution available here in NZ (from the main Pay TV company Sky TV). And having the flexibility to make my system as big or as small as I like it.

honestly... I think the best part of GB-PVR is... you guys (and girls Smile) the community is the source of lots of the great plugins to GB-PVR, as well as tight integration with all of these other devices that people are taking advantage of (PCH, MVP).

Thanks!!!

This could just about describe what we had as well :o

I replaced most of this with a server on top of the hall cupboard, currently two MVP's & an NMT.

Snap....& I (we) now watch what we want to when we want too, it isn't dictated by what crap is being broadcast at the time.

Snap also.....& with the MLPanel plugin & random photo slideshow (if I feel like it being random at the time) at the click of one button the experience is heaps better than it ever was playing records/cd's.

the community is great, i would love it if we actually made a "online" part to gbpvr like boxee.

then we could recommend shows/movies etc to our friends. just make the app more social, to match the forum.

but best part of gbpvr is hands down its stability. the recording service never cauess me grief (when its running).
oh the only problem with it is it seems to load plugin dlls so you have to kill it to upgrade a plugin (thats the only reason i stop it)

Being able to fill in the gaps in evening TV viewing that are full of c**p from the broadcasters

+1

The best part is really at the heart of gbpvr. Recording TV shows and playing them back when you want to and resuming from where you left off. We virtually never watch live tv now, except for the news. Instead we sit down and choose what to watch from a great (If I do say so myself) selection of pre-recorded material.

Reduced clutter:
I have a nice Italian amplifier with a reasonably neat looking black silverstone case housing my gbpvr pc sitting on top. This replaces my cd player, VHS machine, DVD player, Radio tuner, cassette desk, toaster.

Plugins:
Weather plugin looks amazing but I don;t actually use it that much.
Torrents plugin is excellent.
Ditto Cinema Plugin - A++.
Smilers' BBC iPlayer plugin is an absolutely killer app for UK users
CS plugin for amazing looks and the fact that it works with everything.
Pastro's Skiptool for trimming and encoding videos for archiving.
Music Plugin is cool. Music sounds fantastic via my m-audio soundcard into the amp. Unfortunately I don;t get to listen to music in the living room as much as I would like.

I like Revens' idea of a plugin with recommended viewing, obviously split by country.

Your reduced clutter system sounds good to me... how well does it do toast?
