I think I have a good idea to source of the problem. Before uninstalling SAF, I installed a SAF patch for BETA18. The patch was tweak to the registy for MPG files:

http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=3...tcount=109

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Media Type\Extensions\.mpg]
"Source Filter"="{1365BE7A-C86A-473C-9A41-C0A6E82C9FA3}"

I did not look to see what the value of this key was before I installed the patch, so I don't know how to reverse it. I suspect I need a different GUID for the source filter than what I currently have in registry.

Can someone with Windows 7 check to see what they have for this registry setting?

I dont have that key at all on my Windows 7 machine. It does have extension keys for several other file types, but not ".mpg".

Maybe I just need to remove it. Did you have one for MPEG? I do and it is identical to MPG.

I posted a question directly to HBorg on SAF thread. He should know what I should do to reverse the setting since he came up with the tweak.

I have 32 extensions listed on mine. Some of these probably come from other media related applications I have installed like iTunes.

Since MPG appears to point to an invalid filter, I suspect MPEG does too for me since they have identical GUIDS.

I will wait and see what hborg says. My guess is that I just need to delete it. Possibly both.

No, I have not installed SAF again. I am reluctant to do so.

I think SAF is great for machines dedicated as an GVPVR HTPC, especially if you run XP. In my case, I still need to use some other tools on the same machine. It is also my home computer that I use to edit family videos. After I installed SAF last time, I discovered that i could no longer run some of these tools.

I also think the installer/uninstaller is not considering that the config.xml for GBPVR may have other customizations between the time the pack is installed. For example, I adjusted my video directories after I installed SAF pack. When I unistalled it, my directories in the config file were returned back to the way they were before I installed it.

I wish SAF was not so intrusive. For example, I don't think it should change the config.xml. Just tell use to change instead. I also wish it did not break other applications.

I decided to remove MPG/MPEG keys from the registry. I can now play MPG files through GBPVR. I still have audio issues, but I need to investigate.

You are right, SAF is HTPC dedicated.
Your config.xml is stored to config.old when SAF is instaled and it is restored after SAF uninstall to original state. So if you have directory configuration before SAF install, it will be there if SAF is uninstalled too.

Windows Media Center would not play DVDs anymore. Windows Movie Maker would not play AVI files (from camcorder).
