Rawvideo is disabled in ffdshow. Might be the splitter. I will play it again now and post more logs.

Amazing. That time it didn't play. It crashed PVRx2 as before. What the...?

Edit: Just restarted, with the same result. I'm wracking my brain trying to think of what I changed and changed back. Doesn't seem like anything...I was installing Mediaportal while I waited for an answer from Sub, which, as I said, downgraded DirectX (but the problem was occurring before with the newer version).

OK, so it's not filename length. Where do I find hte Haali video splitter (i.e. what is its filename likely to be)?

Edit again: Just tried it again after closing Slimm-GBPVR (the only thing I could think of that was closed earlier). This time it hung PVRx2 completely. (That thing really needs a timeout). I am in FSE, so am trying to trick my way out of the program.

I have looked through the system32 folder, the ffdshow list and the codecs listed under "hardware" devices. I can't identify the Haali splitter. Any assistance would be appreciated.

It's being loaded for some reason (it could be because of the Haali splitter though):

Code:

2010-01-03 13:28:45.015    VERBOSE     - Video Renderer

That I don't know, I haven't used Haali in a while since I don't have any MKV's. If your codec pack has a configuration screen, you may be able to remove it in there. Reinstalling the codec pack should give you the ability to not install it as well. Or you can use GraphStudio or G-Spot to find out the filename and unregister it.

I just remembered something: In the GBPVR Config, go to the "Misc" tab and uncheck "Use ffdshow post processing". This should prevent the raw video filter from being loaded.

To my surprise, my system seems to be full of Malware. Why not? After all it's two days old.

I disabled post-processing, but no luck.

OK, this is beyond weird. Every time I make a copy of the file, it plays once. If I play it again, it crashes PVRx2. I haven't found another type of file that does this (only those particular MPEG1s), so I can't see that a virus is attached to the software, or it would be attacking more generally...but as far as I know, a virus can't attach to an MPEG.

I'm running full scans now. Any ideas out there?

Edit: The one that Malwarebytes has found is Rogue.Systemsecurity. So far, it only seems to be attached to start menu links to the virus-checking software. Still can't see it affecting an MPG. What else could cause the thing to play only once?

I am going to copy it again, play it, stop it and zip the logs.

Here they are. Same log as posted before, after successfully playing Copy of Copy of Temp.mpg, then after reentering PVRx2 and trying to play Copy of Copy of Temp.mpg again...program crash.

It's definitely a codec issue (haali seems to be taking over everything using the k-lite settings).

Uninstall the K-Lite codec pack.
Download the following:

Or:

Hoborg's SAF pack: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=40821

Oh, no! How sure are you? K-Lite is the only thing I've found that plays everything (particularly some FLVs that have always plagued me), and I was playing these with it installed before my hard drive crash.

I can't use the SAF due to a conflict with a codec that my online TV player requires...and, it didn't play all those FLVs anyway. Also, I wish to continue using the GPU processing capabilities of the Avivo codecs, and Hoborg says I must uninstall them, too.

MPV does not deinterlace well...finding an alternative to it was actually what got me into this mess in the first place: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...termittent

I will keep trying to find a way to uninstall Haali; however, if you know any more detail, it might help me to tweak in another way should this prove impossible. I may also investigate transcoding these files rather than throwing away so much other functionality.

Have you tried the CCCP (codec pack)? At least it winn give you the option to configure what hali will be used for.

You were right. Haali was the culprit. I have removed it, and the offending files (and all others I've tried) now play.

There may be an issue with deinterlacing, but I am too tired to be sure.

However, my HD audio is now shot. Here's what happened:

Remember that I am in the middle of a reinstallation nightmare. I only installed codecs yesterday; K-Lite, Avivo and QTalt 1.68. Everything worked fine except for those MPEG1 files.

I knew better, but I went ahead and uninstalled K-Lite today anyway, to try to solve the MPEG1 problem. This allowed me to reinstall it without Haali. (By the way, I tried the Unlocked SAF before reinstalling K-Lite, and still had the same problems; no Cyberlink decoder visible for a start. This is after yesterday's fresh O/S install.)

Once I had done so, 5.1 audio would no longer work. I am being fed the left and right channel only to my TV's left and right channels; no downmixing. Lots of music, no speaking voices. I fiddled with ffdshow, and at one stage by using the Mixer to 2.0, got audio working. The next time I tried the same source, the problem had recurred. After another hour or so, I set ffdshow's merit way down and installed AC3Filter. Everything played fine...until the next time I came back to the same source. Same problem is occurring.

Anyone have any advice about how to configure either of these products? My TV is perfectly capable of downmixing 5.1 audio from its own tuner to two speakers, or passing it through the SPDIF output as 5.1; I don't see why it can't do the same here.

So much for a fresh install, after all of this.
