Hmm. tried this and even got up to 120 which means it takes a while when tuning but I have not got any more channels. I find this really odd. In the HDHomerun utilty I get all the channels without a problem. I noticed that it only picks up channels on 4-6 which may be normal or otherwise I guess?

whurlston Wrote:Can you post the logs from the client as well?

The logs were from the client last time but I have posted the most recent ones again. You'll be please to hear I can now see TV on some channels. It is very slow to appear but it does get there. On other channels however I seem to only get audio - bit odd - but I think this is progress! Thanks again for your help. Smile

Try specifying your video/audio decoders in Config instead of "System Default".

Can you give me a clue how to do that? When I click the down arrow I only get System Default as an option. When I click the dots to the right .... nothing happens.

Thanks

you can try the free MPV/MPA decoders

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPA_Decoder.htm

or you can try the SAF codec pack that will install codecs and configure gbpvr to use them corrrectly.

Although I can tune and watch live TV (both cable and OTA) using HomeRun's own scan utility and viewer, I am getting nowhere with GB-PVR. The tuning assistant doesn't even list HomeRun among its available tuners. The GB-PVR "capture sources" configuration does let me designate the two tuners of my HomeRun device, but it shows an EPG configuration error immediately when I try to run it using Schedules Direct (for which I just registered an account). Admittedly I am confused, since I am not at the moment concerned about the EPG and channel mapping, but want first to get GB-PVR to scan for channels so I can at least watch live TV using GB-PVR. If this must be done with the Tuning Assistant, then I am SOL since it doesn't recognize my HomeRun. If scanning channels is a built-in component of configuring the recording sources, I must get over the EPG hurdle. One obvious question in my mind is, "How does GP-PVR identify me as a registered user of Schedules Direct?" Clearly I am missing something. Is there such a thing as a user's guide for using GB-PVR (ideally, specific to HomeRun, but at least a general step-by-step guide applicable to all tuners)?

The tuning assistant is for analog devices, only needed for some european users, so not something you need to worry about.

Do you have the application set to 'GBPVR' in the HDHomeRun configuration utility? If not, then it wont have added your specific HDHomeRun entries, and two entries you're seeing a probably the 'HDHomeRun Tuner #1/#2' entries, which are actually for my DVB-T/C HDHomeRun (and different serial number etc), and not your ATSC/QAM one.

Did you click the 'map digital channels to epg channels' button to initiate a scan?

Next the drop down box where you selected 'schedules direct', there is a settings button. In that settings screen you need to enter your schedules direct username and password.

There is a lot of variations on what needs to be done, depending on where you are in the world, what broadcast TV system you use, and what EPG source you're using, but you can find some setup guides here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=43361 (or in the wiki)

Thanks for the advice, as I have made a baby step of progress. Entering my Schedules Direct username and password overcame the configuration error, allowing a channel scan to proceed. I am initially trying just to get OTA channels scanned for my location in San Francisco (and will worry about clear QAM with Astound later). The lineup included a proposed 68 channels which were then analysed in sequence, reporting sig level and quality in the 70-90's for many of the channels as it was analyzing. When the analysis was done, however, it reported no channels were found. Most exasperating.

Do the scan again, then post the config.exe.log and config.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

I re-ran the config, this time appending the additional extension to specifiy my OTA lineup w/Schedules Direct (as before, the lineup [which is lineup 1] included 68 channels). Again I watched as it scanned and observed as it reported (on-the-fly) about 11 channels with significant sig strength and quality (though none of these was added, either in real-time or upon conclusion, to the "channels found" window). Upon completion of the scan, it reported "no channels found", suggesting I check my configuration.

I should mention that when using HDHomeRun's quick viewer, I am able to view 12 main channels (most of which have multiple sub-channels).

Thanks so much for your assistance.

In the logs it looks like the HDHomeRun is locking onto the signal, but it's never delivering any data from the device to GB-PVR. This is relatively common problem, with the user's firewall software not allowing communication between the HDHomeRun and Config.exe(/GBPVR.exe/GBPVRRecordingService.exe).

The HDHomeRun is prone to these types problems, since it needs to communicate across the network, and firewalls and antivirus types of software typically dont allow this by default. The HDHomeRun software setups firewall rules when its installed for the few common apps, like its own viewer, vlc etc, but unfortunately not for GB-PVR.
