ATI 650 on cable -- QAM OK, no analog

who's 650 is it? is it a real ATI model or someone else's?

something is missing... your analog card has no mpeg-2 output. I thought all 650's had a hardware encoder, but perhaps they don't. Either that or you don't have the drivers installed correctly.

The program that came with the card -- ATI Catalyst Media Center plays analog just fine. Would GBPVR and ATI CMC use the same driver?

I have reinstalled GB-PVR several times. I am now reinstalling the ATI XP driver package I downloaded from ATI.

ATI Catalyst Media Center doesn't require the hardware mpeg-2 encoder. GB-PVR does.

I reinstalled the ATI drivers without error but I see from the AMD website that they released new drivers a week after I installed GB-PVR for the first time so I will try those.

Somewhere in the filtercheck output for the analog side of the card (ie, the bits that don't say BDA) it should have something like "ATI MUX MPEG2 Output" and "ATI AVStream MPEG2 Multiplexer". So either the specs for your card are wrong, and it really doesn't have an MPEG-2 encoder, or somehow the driver is wrong and not installing the part that accesses the encoder.

Either way, we've reached the limit of my knowledge; I've never used analog, nor any ATI card... hopefully someone else with some experience with ATI 650 cards can pick up from here (pBS?).

one final thing that popped into my head, did you try the driver from diamond? http://www.diamondmm.com/TVW650PCIE.php

you can look in device manager for it's hardware id, like pci\ven_xxxx\dev_xxxx
look that up in the driver's *.inf file, and that will tell you exactly what card it is and what capabilities it has..
[or just post the devid and i'll check the .inf for you]

as far as i know they all have a hardware encoder from 550 on up....[6xx series]
just some have 2 simultaneous tuners, others have either/or tuners...[1 cap source at a time]
