Just for good measure I also delete all the channels. I'm running a nova t 500 dual tuner and a couple of nova t usb sticks. The USB sticks are never unplugged. I currently show 8 tuners (four not present obviously) with varying dev numbers.

Outside chance it might be a registry problem. One of these might help:

Might want to make sure you've got the latest drivers and BIOS for your cards/motherboard.

Thanks for the replies, I'm guessing it's the mix of PCI and USB devices. I'll experiment with registry when I'm a bit less tiired.

Oh, and sub, no need for any apology for what is a windows issue. For the fantastic work that is GBPVR/NPVR it's worth the 30 second check if the server reboots itself.

But could the application not allow the user to delete a device from its list?

I have just had a new problem. I'm using windows media centre for analogue recording via a cable box, and using npvr for freeview digital recordings. (I like the fact that gb-pvr and now npvr WILL run alongside WMC.)
Tonight whilst watching and recording with npvr, the machine locked up and I was forced to push the power button to force a reboot. Now npvr is "claiming" the analogue tuner so WMC won't work. If I un-enable the analogue tuner in npvr, it stays enabled. If I stop npvr, WMC still can't see the analogue tuner.
I have tried disabling the analogue tuner in the device manager (needs a reboot) and it still shows up in the npvr devices list although it shows not present, it still can't be disabled.

Is there a workaround to stop npvr claiming this one tuner?

Although I don't use WMC, I have never seen NPVR grab my analogue tuner unless it is recording. It is used on a machine that has GBPVR (that does use it for STB recording), NPVR (for testing, but not of normal recording, which uses DVB-T) and also a CCTV application. The analogue tuner seems to be available to all unless actually recording.

Regards being unable to disable the analogue tuner (tick box not working), I've reported this earlier so hopefully it is somewhere on the fix list.
What are you using as an analogue recorder? if it is still unavailable to WMC when NPVR is not running, then it has to be the driver I would have thought.
Considering the trouble needed to get an analogue tuner working with NPVR (bits from WINTV etc) I would remove those bits and thne NPVR won't be able to see it at all (although it will saty in teh list but be "not present").

I don't really know what was going on. I un-installed NPVR, and WMC still wouldn't work. To get it all working, I removed the drivers for all the tuners, then re-installed them, ran through the WMC tuner set-up, then re-installed NPVR. Everything is now working as before except that the analogue tuner shows up in the NPVR devices list which it never did before. Although I don't know that it was NPVR which was stopping WMC seeing the analogue tuner, I would feel happier if I could delete it from the NPVR devices list as I would then be more confident that it s going to remain available for the next WMC recording.
To answer Martint123's questions: It is a Hauppauge PVR150. Normally WMC uses it alone and wasn't previously affected by the install of GB-PVR then of NPV which were using USB Nova-T sticks. While I had this issue, this tuner was invisible to WMC although NPVR was not trying to use it, but it was in the NPVR devices list as present and enabled.
What can I remove so that NPVR will see it as not present, but WMC will still be able to use it?
(I see there is an entry for this card in the analogdevices.xml file, would it help to edit that out, or delete that file?)

I've figured out that it was not NPVR which was grabbing the analogue tuner, it was WinTV. I had installed WinTV since the previous reboot in order to install the Arcsoft codecs.
I would still like to be able to remove the analog tuner from the NPVR devices list.

I'm sure it wouldnt have been NPVR using it. Just seeing it listed in the devices tab will not use the device. You'd have to have setup channels, and been recording, or doing live tv.

This also backed up by your comments that uninstalling NPVR didnt help. I'm 100% it wouldnt have been used by NPVR.

Deleting it wouldnt help, because the next time you go back to that screen it'll be auto detected and recreated.

The strange thing is that the analogue tuner has never shown in the list before. Now (with WMC working again with the analogue tuner) it is still in the NPVR devices list, but showing as not present.

By default, the analogue tuner will not show up in the list. It requires a component from Hauppauge installing before being able to be seen.
By installing WinTV this component will be installed and then it would appear as available hardware in NPVR.
When you removed WinTV this component will have gone so the tuner is no longer available, but it remains in the database, as otherwise
any and all channels that are setup would disappear and I certainly wouldn't like my hours of work going if I booted the machine up with a tuner missing. Wink

I agree that it would be nice to be able to delete old tuners though as my list is getting a bit untidy.
