Steeb, I am really glad you mentioned NPVR. I am really disappointed with GBPVR users who aren't committed to supporting sub with NPVR and continue to promote GB-PVR. jch you may have valid reasons for sticking with GBPVR but try NPVR you might like it and if you don't give some feedback on why not. sub has spend 100's of hours on this, I think you owe him an evening.

Regarding versions I can't remember one version of GBPVR/PVRx2/NPVR that was 100% stable in the release installer without patches and good luck with that in old version Tuning LiveTV with NPVR is still a problem that sub needs to look at but at same time, it won't hang when programs change which will happen with 1.4.7

The only reason I'm sticking with GB-PVR at the moment is because I cannot afford to replace 3 MVP's with NMT's, IMHO NPVR looks better, is easier to configure, appears (for something still in beta) like it is going to be a rock solid PVR solution. The work done by Sub on NPVR is (as usual) fantastic and already the community is producing some great plugins and skins. The fact that it is also possible to run NPVR alongside GB-PVR on the same box means that everyone should at least 'give it a go'!

Sorry, all that on MVP/NMT thread :-)

cheers

What other than tuning in livetv are you looking for?

Is that one for me? Big Grin

If so I don't think I am looking for much else!

Could I make it clear that currently GB-PVR is used exclusively as our Home Entertainment system. Server with 1 STB into PVR150 and 2 x DVB-S cards. NMT in Living room, 3 x MVP's (Kitchen/Bedroom/Bathroom). Really 99.99% usage of extenders (thin clients) is running LiveTV, Recordings, WebRadio and Picture and Music Libraries.

Very rarely now and then I may download or rip something that won't play nice with my set up but there are always other workarounds for this.

So in answer to the question I cannot think of anything missing other than the ability to have a functional LiveTV set up through my MVP with NPVR. From what I've tested so far the MVP's seem to handle most things I've thrown at them with NPVR perfectly OK (but admittedly that wasn't rugged testing, and I haven't tried WebRadio yet with NPVR!)

cheers

Thanks for your suggestion.

I sent $40USD to graeme/sub way back when I first started using GBPVR--back when he wasn't actively soliciting donations.

My understanding is that is more support than most people have given him.

btw, the donation button on the wiki is currently broken...

jch, while I am sure sub will appreciate all the contributions just to offset the costs of running this site, I really meant I was disappointed how many GBPVR user contined to promote the use of GBPVR and were even helping new users go down the wrong path, despite all the work sub has done on NPVR. I still get this feeling every day.

Do you still, I feel a shift slowly coming....

I don't think GB-PVR is the wrong path, it was up there at the top. But it cannot be for much longer the right path or at the top due to the fact it is now legacy software. There is still support there for GB-PVR and I think rightly so, for now.

There is innovation in NPVR and just takes the brave like you to pitch into the battle as you have done. It won't be next week, or for that matter the one after that but have a feeling this will all turn around again in a few months and become the thing that everyone wished they were there for at the start, as were the bold defending Troy Big Grin
