ok, that answers my question about getting DVB-S2 to work on my TBS 6890. The reasoning makes sense though.

Currently finding something which does background recording for DVB-S2 is proving a missing.

Resurrecting this thread because I recently got one of the TBS 6981 cards - could not resist dual DVB-S2 tuners for less money than a nova HD-S2, and for the first time I can record and play HD channels (including channel 4) at the same time. Only problem is this is in W7 media center, and ideally would like to have it in my main PC using, of course, GBPVR (or nPVR) with S2 working. I posted on the TBS forums suggesting they should send a sample to Sub, and a moderator did reply promptly asking for the contact details so will have to wait and see if anything comes of it...

If they supply a sample, I'll certainly see if I can get it to work.

I should note, other than just supporting Hauppauge cards for DVB-S2, there is some cards out there that auto detect pilot and roll off. These will probably work with NPVR/GBPVR too.

Good for asking them Pob! It would be very handy if nPVR supported these as all my searches for another DVB-S2 card on ebay comes up with these.

Any idea which makes/models do auto detect pilot and roll off? I'm guessing it doesn't say that kind of detail on adds... I'm looking for the cheapest single tuner DVB-S2 card I can find to complement my HVR-4000 as my other DVB-S card as died.

To be honest, I dont know. The Hauppauge HVR-4400 is an example of this type of device though, so I know others will be out there too.

I actually did the same thing back when this thread started in February, and I got an email back very quickly saying they would contact Sub. Doesn't look like anything has happened yet though.

They've contacted me in the last couple of weeks, and are supposed to be sending me a couple of sample devices, so they should be useable for S2 in the near future.

Good news then!

I guess Pob must be more persuasive than me.

Whooo hoo. Do you know if you do manage to support it that the PCI version would be a go-er?
(PVR machine has no PCI-e).

No idea. Assuming the drivers behave the same, then I'd guess PCI and PCIe would both work.
