You are correct - NPVR does require the specific versions linked to in the wiki.

Alex

It's a reason why it is linked in the download thread Big Grin

To Reddwarf question if I ran the installer as administrator: I don't know how to do that, I only execute NPVRSetup.exe by presing enter and I presume that NPVRSetup.exe is running the installer(?)

If you have UAC turned on there are some operations you are not permitted, like installing the recording service. Right-click on NPVRSetup.exe and choose "Run as Administrator". That may help getting npvr properly installed.

Ok, I uninstalled and reinstalled as administrator. The services started and I was able to walk through the configuration. Some new concerns but they are not related to the installation so i'll open a new thread.

Huge thanks for the help

If NPVR refused to install until pre requisite software was installed I would have thought it would make Sub’s life easier as “Decoders” & “Direct X 9c runtime” are probably the two most common subjects on the forum. I may be wrong but I have a feeling that it already checks for .NET2, but it would be much more difficult to detect if “suitable” decoders were installed unless it insisted one of the packs which included ffdshow was installed.

In my opinion, it is a very bad idea to require ffdshow to be installed, it is a POS software... Sad

Oh, oh, here we go on a ffdshow debate!

BTW, I agree with Reddwarf, I've never had a good experience with ffdshow. In fact, I once had to reinstall the OS to get rid of its effects on other decoders (at least that's the only way I could find to fix the choppy video).

I only suggested ffdshow because it is the only ”Free” decoder I could think off. I used the Cyderlink decoders which came with my tuner but installed ffdshow as people seemed to think they were the best. However problems have disappeared since returning to just Cyberlink.

I have never had trouble installing or updating ffdshow with the K-Lite package. It is a fundamental component of mpc-hd which I am sure is used by far more users than use NextPVR.
