Yeah, thats not going to make any difference if you STB isnt putting a signal out on the composite cable.

The cable line is attached to a splitter. Could that be causing these problems?

Here's an update. The DCT700 STB works in GB-PVR now with my Hauppauge HVR-1950. A few minutes ago, I got off the phone with a cable company rep who reset the box for me, and it works well now. I set up the DCT700 as another capture device as an analog recording plugin (composite, external tuner). Are these the correct settings? I assume so, since it works now, but would choosing the digital recording plugin be a better option in terms of picture quality? Also, how do I go about using the IR blaster to control the STB? The HVR-1950 comes with a remote control and the IR blaster, but I have no clue how to set them up. Thank you.

Yes, sounds about right.

The DCT-700 doesnt output any digital, so you wont get any digital channels this way.

You might be able to get some Clear QAM digital channels if you put a splitter before the DCT700 and have one of the cable feeds go directly to the HVR-1950 (ie, bypassing the DCR700).

Typically you'd configure your blaster in the Hauppauge BlastCFG utility, then configure your capture source to use the '.exe channel changer' pointing at HaupBlast.exe

Can I get the Hauppauge BlastCFG utility without having to install WinTV?

I believe that you can download IR Blaster here:
http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/su...r1950.html
There's nothing wrong with installing WinTv, even if you don't use it.

Well, there is, because when I installed WinTV two years ago, Hauppauge installed its own video and audio codecs, and it rendered me unable to play DVDs in Windows Media Player, and when I would burn a DVD, there would be no sound when playing it on a TV. meccano, check your private messages. Thanks.

I couldn't figure out the wiki site, and how to add info there, so I'll write here how I got the DCT700 to work with GBPVR. Download and install the latest version of WinTV, as it has the BlastCfg utility that unfortunately cannot be used unless you install the whole WinTV package. Next, connect your DCT700 and tuner card via composite cables. Once you have the DCT700 and your TV tuner card connected via the composite cables, you need to connect the IR blaster to the back of your card and secure it over the existing sensor of the DCT700 correctly with electrical tape. I use electrical tape as opposed to a Scotch-type tape because it is flexible and easily removable if you don't have the positioning just right. Proper positioning is critical, and is really the only thing that you may run into problems with. It may take you a few times to gt the positioning right. Don't be frustrated. Keep at it, and you will get it. Next, run BlastCfg in the WinTV program. Choose your language, region, device type, vendor/model, and for the CodeSet, use 80. Close the window of BlastCfg. Next, you run GBPVR's config program, and go to the "capture sources" tab. Add your device, and select "Analog Recording Plugin." Click the settings button beside "Analog Recording Device" and choose your specific card, country, bitrate, and for the source, choose "Composite, External Tuner." Click OK. Next, choose your EPG Source. I use SchedulesDirect. If you do, enter your username and password there, click OK, then click on "Update EPG." You'll be prompted to save the recording source. Next, choose your Channel Changer. Click "Settings" beside "Channel Changer" and browse to HaupBlast.exe in the Program Files/GBPVR directory on your C drive. Click OK, OK again, and then reboot. Run GBPVR, choose a program from the EPG, and enjoy. If you notice when clicking on a channel in the EPG that the box doesn't change channels, then the IR blaster isn't positioned quite correctly, so again, keep at it. Anybody who needs help, I'm here. I'm also working on instructions for NPVR, but it is much the same process. I'll post NPVR instructions in a few days.
