Are Samsung BD-F5100 the wrong sort of device?

yeah the BD-F5100 doesn't have "Smart Hub". They list they run some native apps but they need to support smart hub to download/install additional apps.

easiest way to tell if a device supports smarthub is to go to samsung.co.nz and just compare products they list "Smart Hub" "Yes"/"No" in those comparisons.

I'm the one who posted the info saying the BD-E5500 and E5700 are 2011 SmartHub devices, and thus aren't going to work with the NPVR app. There was a table of devices posted on a forum related to the Plex app, and I also found some online videos from Samsung Product Support that made a clear distinction between the true 2012 E devices and the legacy 2011 E devices (although Samsung identifies all E devices as being part of the 2012 "model year", which adds to the confusion). The E5500 and E5700 have exactly the same SmartHub as my D5300.

stustunz, sorry that you missed that discussion; I'm gathering that you ordered your BD-E5500 believing it was going to be supported because it was believed that all 'E' devices were 2012.

I'm investigating rewritting the app using knockoutjs instead of angular, angular browser support is much less and knockoutjs supports IE6 and older browsers. very very early days, havent gotten anything to work yet. a lot of stuff needs to be completely rewritten, but due to the price of 2012 BRs (before they were cheap at smithscity) I've began to investigate it.

no promises, have to see if it can work.
