BTW: As advised, I toggled the decoders some more and got one to work: Sonic Cinemaster VideoDecoder 4.3 but when I was changing channels w. the remote it was a little slow and then after 4 or 5 channel changes it froze up.

After closing the window and restarting now I don't even get sound anymore... just goes to black again.

What could explain that?

I also looked at the LAV filter link and it was way over my head. Not sure how u use them and it looks like they have to be compiled or such. ??

They didn't showed up at the time ...

You can find the URL starting from
http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...FirstSteps
Then Configuration then Recordings

If you don't have LAV decoders, you could install K-Lite Codec Standard, Full or Mega from
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

WHAT?
I didn't get any codecs but I sure got a lot of malware search bots installed in my browsers with that install. Now I have to find out how to remove them.

I see now... If you "Download K-lite" you get pure malware ... if you scroll down to the bottom of the page and download the small print / barely highlighted Full or Mega then you get an assortment of codecs which aren't K Lite at all. I wish you had pointed that out.

K Lite just uses the free codecs as bait and the misleading webpage formatting as the trick.

Sad

I take it they are the LAV codecs either. Are the codecs any good or just trash like the website?

A couple of things that haven't been mentioned:

(1) If you installed the WinTV7 that came with the 2250, you would have a pretty good MainConcept decoder for MPEG2 video. (H.264 isn't used by U.S. ATSC.)
(2) With XP, the best video renderer is probably VMR9 or one of its variants rather than EVR.

I'm curious what decoder you're using for AC3 audio, which is the only audio format used by ATSC. Hauppauge's decoder comes with WinTV, many use LAV, I'm using AC3Filter.

Live TV is the worst thing to try on a new setup as you are using the recording and playback parts NextPVR at the same time. Best to try making a short recording of a minute or so and check it is more than zero bytes. If it is zero bytes then it is a recording side problem. The signal strength and quality seem to vary a lot in the logs so you may need to connect the tuner to a decent aerial.

If on the other hand the file is in the megabytes size try to play back in NextPVR but if that fails then try to play it back in another media player such as VLC. If it plays ok in VLC then it is obviously the playback part of NextPVR with the problem and almost certainly the decoders.

The default Renderer for XP is VMR9 FSE

Also as you are using two tuners under XP you will need to install the "DVBfix" otherwise XP will crash as soon as the second tuner becomes active.

C:\Temp is the default location, but there would be nothing wrong with putting it in All Users (or Public with more recent Windows versions).
