That would be very useful. The New Zealand variation of this problem really irritates me. We currently have two channels doing it. TV3 prefixes some programme names with "All New:" My Ready Recordings currently has two screenfull's of "All New:" programmes. Prime prefix some programme names with "Prime Presents:", which is even more irritating as they seem to run out of space to give the full programme name - recently we had "Prime Presents: Rick Stein's" and the first word of the programme description was "India"!

However as Lao Pan says the channels aren't consistent, part way through a series they will drop the prefix, and then remember to start using it again a couple of episodes later.

It seems there really is a mixed bag.

Although my XMLTV file from RT shows the programme as "Natural World", I was watching a recording of "MasterChef" last night and at the end they did the usual TV announcer bit about what was coming up on BBC channels - it showed "Honey Badgers: Masters of Mayhem" with no mention on screen of "Natural World".

It looks like they're moving to a series link approach, i.e., it doesn't matter what the text of the programme title is, if you have a DVR / STB etc with series link capability it will find it.

Cheers,
Brian

On the subject of series link, what happens with a real freeview/freesat box if you series record something like Top Gear? Does it just get the 6 or so episodes for the series currently broadcasting, or will it pick up the next series too like NPVR will.

Would be a bugger to miss the start of the next series because you didn't notice the first episode being on.

I use EPG Collector to download the broadcast EPG because it has the ability to extract the Series ID and Programme ID which are used by PVRs to record series and avoid duplicate recordings. It comes in a block in the format something like "Series_ID,Programme_ID,0" but as NextPVR cannot use the Series_ID data I just extract the Programme_ID to avoid duplicate recordings. As far as I can tell using your example all episodes of Top Gear should have the same Series_ID so the PVR would record every episode of Top Gear it finds not previously recorded.

If implemented correctly it does avoid problems I have had missing episodes because of a spelling mistake or different punctuation. However some channels such as Quest only seem to keep Programme_IDs for a year then start again in January with new IDs.

here here.

feckin 'New:' prepended to programs, but only some programs.

it really messes up when I come to watch stuff, and then program icons etc.

If a checkbox option to Search with (New: ) at the front of the title, in the config when processing the Epg would be wonderful.
and then maybe a choice to actually remove it completely, so it does not show in the recordings list so it merges the 'New' and non New programms.

Thanks

Another one that catches me out is 'Live' without the colon though.
Live motogp and Live Formula One are my biggest bugbears.

I guess 'The' is also a beginning word that makes finding things awkward.

Down this way we also get these stupid "additions" to the title that screws up all sorts of things.... I finally got fed up with them & started getting rid of them in my epgupdate batch & these days I just forget that there was ever a problem until someone posts something about it on the forums... OK so it requires you to use an xml guide for your data but EPGCollector works fine in the UK which still grabs the data (even the encrypted data...at least down this way) from the stream..... I posted about my setup in this thread (although I have tweaked it even more since then)

I haven't yet wanted to record any series starting with "NEW: ", so far! However it seems to be spreading to more channels. "ALL NEW" is another I have seen but only a couple of times. At the moment I run a script on the XML EPG file produced by EPGcollector to tidy up the Unique_ID for each programme to put it in a format NextPVR can use to avoid duplicate recordings. It was written by my son so I will ask him to add a function to remove "NEW: " as well.

It am seeing this on loads on BBC3 channels tonight. (9pm Street Kid, 10pm, Orphan Black).
Oddly when I looked in my xml download file, there was no refefrence to "New:" at all.
Then I discovered I had BBC3 configured to use DVB EPG rather than XML data (like the rest of my channels).

This problem has been spreading with the "New:" prefix to the title being used far more often. I was about to ask my son to write a script to remove the characters from the XML file produced by EPG Collector when I just realised that EPG Collector has the facility to remove or change EPG text.

Under the "Edit" tab is a "Find and Replace" facility. Under "Text to change" you enter to text to find and "Replacement text" is left blank in this case. As far as I can tell it had removed all occurrences of "New:" from my EPG and have now removed a number of recent Recurring Recordings which start with "New:"
