Unable to find available capture device

I uninstalled wintv last night and reinstalled just the drivers. No such luck. I did make an image of the computer before experimenting with different tv tuner backends. I think I'm going to roll back to that and see if it still works.

i have a similar problem:

Windows 7 x64, hauppauge 2210 (WinTV 7164).

Worked flawlessly in Windows Media Center, and even get it to work perfectly fine with "ServerWMC" for Kodi.

I want to upgrade the OS to Windows 10, and since Windows Media Center is no longer going to be available on that platform, i need a replacement, so am investigating alternatives, including NextPVR.

Problem is just like the other poster here, NextPVR seems to recognize the tuners, but i keep getting the message "Unable to start device".

I've included the log generated, as i believe is needed according to sticky posts on the topic, hope it helps.

It looks like the Microsoft BDA components are missing from you Windows install - so no digital tuner software will work, including NextPVR. These are components that'd normally always be present on a Windows install. You're not using an embedded windows build? If not maybe try reinstalling Windows.

Still works flawlessly in WMC and in Kodi using ServerWMC, so i actually already have the tuner card working perfectly, just not with NextPVR.

Something's not right, because if what you say is true, then how am i using it right now?

Are there any other checks, tests, etc that can help diagnose the issue ?

It's possibly Media Center no longer uses this file. Hard to know what Media Center is doing behind the scenes. The Windows digital tuning component is definitely missing from your machine though, and it's needed by NextPVR (and most other TV apps)

Before trying a reinstall of Windows to fix it, you could try starting a command prompt with 'run as administrator' and running:

regsvr32 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\psisrndr.ax

That is the Microsoft file that contains normally this missing component. If you're lucky, re-registering it may make it show up.

hmm, tried the command prompt route, but despite saying it was successful, NextPVR still returns the same "unable to start device" in settings/devices.

If you want to post the logs agin, I'll check if it's now getting past the previously missing 'BDA MPEG2 Transport Information Filter'. There are only BDA components in other .ax files you may be missing too, of which NextPVR depends.
