Also this was in progress which is harder to duplicate. How is the sync on a completed recording? Also how close to the live point are you?

Has nothing to do with live vs not.
Has nothing to do with thumbnails being created live or after, or even thumbnails, since they were set to after, and a recording did it.
Has nothing to do with network. Does it on all.

I will redo link shortly and remessage you, don't know why it restricts anyone.

How close to thr live point depends on when we start watching. Normally 5 to 10 minutes, but it is not due to a live show as I just stated.

Is there a way to verify it is using the LAV filters?

The LAV try app will tell you if is being used. Since you use VLC how do you control your player an why is VLC better choice han yauiclient?

VLC easily let's me turn subtitles on or off. Have no idea how to in yauiclient, you said prior to go in config file (no idea where that is), but that is too hard for changing it.

What is the LAV try app? I Googled it, nothing came up.

I have the box checked to show them in the tray, but they don't show.

For subtitles or more likely for the US closed captioning the key toggle options is G. The Alt-Y should work the same as NextPVR works but is odd since it sometimes show more options then available.

The config file is to default them on but you say you don't use them much or for teletext code pages which you won't use in the US.

If the LAV tray app isn't showing with the NextPVR tray app you may have a problem. Make sure you are running the current version of LAV.

I've downloaded the files now but probably won't have 30 minutes until Monday. First test shows there are missing segments in the file which will cause some seeks issues but overall not bad 16744178 packets checked, 50 errors found.

If the LAV tray app isn't showing with the NextPVR tray app you may have a problem.  Make sure you are running the current version of LAV.

In your original post, you stated that you had installed the 32-bit version of LAV (which is required for NextPVR.exe even on a 64-bit version of Windows). You might want to double check or try reinstalling that.

Also, maybe go into the LAV Splitter Configuration and double check that the Enable System Tray Icon box is checked:

I can't capture the OSD with OBS but otherwise the sync here seems fine excellent actually https://streamable.com/zmtk5m    I don't see any reason to play the whole 30 minutes straight through.

I did notice the thumbnails and timing file are not 100% accurate but I expect it is not perfect, your timing file is not in exact 1 second segments but that won't interfere with sync.

Like BrettB said I'd confirm LAV32, here is what my tray looks like during playback of your file.

I may have found the problem. I had downloaded the right 32bit LAV filters. I then extracted them, and they appeared in my Program Files(x86) folder. When I opened NextPVR and watched a show, I got no icons in the tray. When this point was belabored by Martin (thank you), it got me wondering why. One possibility - despite "installing them", despite them showing in the dropdown of NextPVR, perhaps they weren't being used.

I then read through the readme file carefully, and found the line about Registering each file. That's different (been using PCs since 1982). So I right clicked each and ran as Admin and then tried NextPVR again. This time the tray icons appear.

I then tested a program, fast forwarding and rewinding, and can't get it to get out of sync.

Observations:

1) The install of LAV filters is different than 99% of most programs. To the knowledgeable people here, they get that. I did not. And going back over a year, it was never pointed out to me. I suspect I haven't had it right since I installed NextPVR years ago?

2) Despite a filter appearing in the dropdown menu of NextPVR, that doesn't mean it's being used, or even exists. To me, that's unusual. And, there is no "save" until you get back to the NextPVR interface. I'd expect it to not appear in the dropdown menu, or an error to appear when I hit Save.

3) This forum is great. Martin, sub, and others never say "you damn idiot". As an active forum member for many things I am expert on (not this - EVs, homebrewing, ...), that's unusual.

Martin, you'll be delighted (tongue-in-cheek) to know that I broke down and bought a real antenna. Since I cut the cord around 2010, I've been using an antenna made from coat hangers and piece of wood quite successfully, until recently. It appears that with a reduction in broadcasting signal strength, and the change to digital putting the channels in the UHF band whereas the antenna was probably fine for VHF, I needed to upgrade. I'll be getting that in the attic in the next week or so, and verifying I have RG-6 and not RG-59 the entire length, plus not a coil of extra coax anywhere. I plan to write down the signal strength both from the TV and from the HD boxes before and after to see what I gain if anything.
