Certainly an odd problem. So from what I've read:

- it results in large parts of the screen being filled with garbage
- only affects nvidia card with hardware accelleration and the nvidia decoder.
- only affects some users, others are fine.

fdm225 Wrote:Wtg, it's interesting that your problem went away when you switched to DVI. I have a HDTV running 1024x768 (uising the VGA input) and still get the lines on the side when I use a 6600/NVidia codec where if I use my 9600/NVidia codec it works fine.
Are you actually talking about the same problem? There is more to it than lines on the side of the picture. See screenshot here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=12318&page=2

Sub, Interesting news on a new update any details?
It should be available this weekend. To be honest with you though, I suspect you'll still have your problem. I havnt changed anything about how the decoders or renderer are hooked up for playback.

Hi All,
From looking at the screenshot I would say with a high amount of certantity that it's the same issue. On a side note, even if the new version doesn't fix it I am fine with the PureVideo codec. I love the software and wouldn't even dream of complaining!

Keep up the great work,
Dave

I'm not sure this is something that sub can fix.

Other programs/codecs produce similar garbage too; for example if you use VMR and DXVA in Hauppauge's WinTV2000 (that uses InterVideo decoders) with GeForce 6xxx cards.

Thats cool - just checking. The comment of yours I quoted made me think you had something less severe.

I'll do a little more testing.

First, I don't know if I've tried the NVidia Pure Video decoder since I switched back to VMR9 with my new TV. Perhaps I'd still be seeing the problem - I'll try it tonight.

Second, the one difference I probably have over many here is that I'm one of the prerelease testers and since I just got my new HDTV last weekend, it's not been used with the most-recent standard release, only the prerelease. Maybe there's a little more to subs "magically fix itself" comment than just wishful thinking. Wink I'll post back if switching back to the NVidia decoders causes me trouble again.

Actually, I saw it with more than the NVidia decoder. I got a new 6200 card, loaded the drivers, downloaded the Pure Video decoder and then thought that was the trouble. Switched to a different decoder and got had the same trouble. I don't recall exactly what decoders I tried, but it was at least the Nero decoders and the Intervideo ones. It wasn't until I switched to Overlay or VMR7 that the trouble went away.

Yep, that's what I saw. The garbage was always the right and lower portion of the screen, and the screen would quickly switch back and forth between looking fine and being filled with garbage. It also always occurred at the same point in the videos I was testing with too, so it's at least partially related to the content. None of my content was special mind you... just normal recordings. I just thought it was wierd that I could restart the video and watch it switch back and forth between a good picture and a screen with garbage on the borders, with it always doing it at the exact same point in the video.

The switching back and forth thing had me wondering too, tried different connections to the monitor to no avail (VGA, DVI & S-Video). It seems content related for me too.

It only happens to me when I change the original aspect ratio too.

It doesn't happen in ZP for me, however I'm come to the opinion that it is a form of the VMR9 bug which Nvidia's drivers are responsible for; so your off the hook in my book Sub! Big Grin

Ok, I switched back to the NVidia Decoders and have not had any trouble. Now, I was only using the trial version of the Pure Video decoders and it's been probably two months since I installed them, so I don't know if they are enabled to use hardware acceleration at this point or not. Not sure how to tell. But in any event, I'm not getting any funny output either and I'm using VMR9 and able to switch aspect ratios without trouble.

Maybe sub is working a little magic... Smile
