This log shows no indication of an incoming connection from the MVP.

So next stop danguyf is a spot of network traffic sniffing with ethereal! Smile

http://www.ethereal.com

If you install this on the machine running gbpvr, come back when you're ready and I'll see what I can do, need to sniff my MVP's first though to see what to expect too.

That won't work, they will both need to be in bridge mode.

As I suspected.

So:
  • the HTPC is using AP #1 to get on the network and be online
  • the MVP using AP #2 is getting an IP address from the router
  • the MVP isn't reaching the HTPC

The heck. I have all filtering and firewalling turned off, so... Blah.

I tried bridging AP #2 to AP #1 (but not vice versa) with no results except for losing the ability to connect to AP #2 via wire or wireless, necessitating that I reset it back to the factory defaults just to get back in.

The only idea of mine I've left to try is putting the router in the basement.

Like I said, you have to set up both to bridge. By all means move the router as a test but it all sounds like it should work.

If you want to give the thing a network sniff, let me know when you've got ethereal installed.

I never had a Netgear.

I'll install ethereal and check out its data.

That was my understanding as well. It never worked for me, though, and the manual said that I could bridge with another AP or with a router by entering that AP or router's MAC -- it said nothing about having to put the first AP's MAC into either (nor was there a place to in the router config), so I wondered if maybe D-Link was doing things differently.

I've left the MVP running now and am re-examining the logs and trying to get ethereal to produce meaningful data.

The last lines of my gbpvr.exe.log are now:
Code:
1/19/2006 8:06:46 PM.078    VERBOSE    [210]    Received BOOTP request from client. bytesReceived: 300  address: 0.0.0.0
1/19/2006 8:07:10 PM.625    VERBOSE    [210]    Received BOOTP request from client. bytesReceived: 300  address: 192.168.0.190
1/19/2006 8:07:10 PM.625    VERBOSE    [210]    Responsed to BOOTP request from client
1/19/2006 8:07:40 PM.734    VERBOSE    [210]    Received BOOTP request from client. bytesReceived: 300  address: 192.168.0.190
1/19/2006 8:07:40 PM.734    VERBOSE    [210]    Responsed to BOOTP request from client
1/19/2006 8:08:10 PM.937    VERBOSE    [210]    Received BOOTP request from client. bytesReceived: 300  address: 192.168.0.190
1/19/2006 8:08:10 PM.937    VERBOSE    [210]    Responsed to BOOTP request from client
1/19/2006 8:08:41 PM.046    VERBOSE    [210]    Received BOOTP request from client. bytesReceived: 300  address: 192.168.0.190
1/19/2006 8:08:41 PM.046    VERBOSE    [210]    Responsed to BOOTP request from client

192.168.0.190 is the IP assigned to MVP #2, so it would seem that the MVP is reaching the HTPC but GBPVR's responses are not getting back to the MVP?
