The more I read about these AF9005 devices, the more flakey I think they sound - whether its hardware or drivers I dont know.

Maybe you right, although it does give good picture quality with the supplied s/w, so I'm hoping its a driver / tuner issue. I've run out of PCI slots and these would be a cheap way to add more tuners.

i have bought the same device off ebay and it arrived today.
I am having the same problems... using my roof aerial i get about 72 stations. Some are blank, some stutter inc channel 4 but many are very clear. However, none of the station names are recognised. I'm gonna contact blaze and see if anything can be fixed...

Hi i'm new here but notice this thread while trying to figure out why BlazeDTV didn't find any channel names but seemed to find about 73 channels (UK Freeview). I found a solution:
I retuned the device, setting the location to 'Universal' from 'UK', it took longer to tune but found the channel names and schedule inforamtion. Also the advanced tickbox was ticked but i didn't change the values (I'm not sure if the last bit was necessary/made a difference). Hope this helps some of you. I take it there is no way to get gbPVR to use the included remote control that comes with this usb stick or do i need to get a MCE remote?

Selfish I know, but I am so relieved that I am not the only one having trouble with "unknown" channels.
I also have the problem that when I restart the Blaze software it only remembers a couple of channels and loses all the unknown ones and most of the ones it has actually been able to name. The Blaze software doesn't seem to let you rename unknown channels (although it seems to say it can) but it does allow you to rename folders. I have tried E Mailing Blaze but it just bounces back (support@blazevideo.com) Has anyone got a better E Mail address for them? Hope we can crack this soon as when it does get a channel the picture and sound quality are excellent. Cheers

Has this become the blaze software support forum?
I've got a theory as to why when using 3rd-party software with the AF9005, we only ever find one channel. It's not necessarily, but I find it odd that only one channel (possibly the last channel watched with Blaze?) is found on a multiplex, despite the fact that a multiplex should carry several channels.
The file note.txt in the drivers at http://www.afatech.com.tw/service/AFAdri...3.WHQL.zip says "AF05BDAEX.dll provides proprietary driver exposed interfaces to AP.(PID filter, Bandwidth for example)". Is it possible that all the PIDs except those for one channel are being filtered out by the stick in order to fit the stream into the limited bandwidth of USB? If so, I imagine in order to show more than one channel, software would have to be able to change the PIDs being filtered. Or is this being done by drivers? Edit: The Afatech page at http://www.afatech.com.tw/product/e_product.htm does indeed say that the stick has a hardware PID filter.

That does make some of sense of what I've experienced with this tuner. Although if that is the case then what use is the 'standard' supplied BDA driver ? Does the BDA specification support this type of PID filtering ? If not then no other software would be compatible with the AF9005.
