Best way to stream over internet?

That is a good estimate....with the below you should have no problem streaming...so long as your host PC has some power.....that is the other contributing factor to stream issues.....the host not being able to transcode fast enogh.....

I was also wondering what settings to use. The only settings that seemed to work at all were the defaults (WMV/MP3/ASF) at 128 or 256. And that used 100% of the CPU. And sometimes I get no video.
My server is a Celeron 1.1GHz (100MHz FSB) with a wireless PCI card going out through a cable modem that I just test at 5.1Mbit down and 2Mbit up. I don't think bandwidth is an issue. What do you think would be an ideal setting for transcoding?

Sounds like you are using Windows Media Player as your client....am I correct?

1.1 Ghz should be ok...perhaps a wee shy.....the wireless may be impacting the performance....how much RAM do you have?

Ok...then with the 1.1Ghz and the 384 mb RAM I am sure you are maxing out your system. Transcoding video is a hog......

Iv you you VLC as your client you can stream in much more efficient formats that should allow you to reduce the amount of strain you are putting on your machine. I think if you used the settings from this post and used VLC as your client (since Windows Media will only decode the wmv stream) you should be ok.

Give it a try and let me know.
